When Ricky and Katrina first met in 2012, their chemistry was undeniable. If they were not going on the most romantic, adventurous dates (beach picnics, zip-lining, and out of town getaways), they were talking on the phone for hours.
In a short amount of time, it was clear that they were each other’s soul mates, and on Christmas Eve 2013, Ricky planned a romantic, scavenger hunt proposal full of surprises. Katrina followed instructions, which led her to a hotel where she received gifts, champagne and a spa treatment. The last set of directions led her to a trail of roses that ended with Ricky on bended knee by a fireplace near the lobby of the hotel. Ricky topped off the proposal with dinner at a swanky restaurant and a night in the Presidential Suite at the hotel!
This adventurous couple, decided to have an engagement session that displayed their personalities, keen sense of fashion, and love for their family. Kesha Lambert of KL Photography took the most gorgeous pictures with the Brooklyn Bridge and waterfront serving as a stunning backdrop.
We wish Katrina and Ricky the best on their destination wedding in the Dominican Republic this upcoming January!
How They Met
In 2012 Ricky and Katrina met for the first time. Soon after they began dating, and they both quickly fell in love. There was no doubt that after the first date the chemistry the two had was something remarkable. They would speak on the phone for hours and converse about a diverse range of topics, most of which was planning to see each other again. Many more dates passed including zip-lining adventures, brunch dates, beach picnics, out of town getaways, and romantic dinners. Before either one of them knew it, there was a natural affinity to always be together. Ricky knew in a short period of time that Katrina was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
As this friendship advanced, they were beginning the adoration and love that would become the foundation of their bond. Time quickly passed and it became official, both Ricky and Katrina were considerably enjoying being a part of this special thing that seems so natural.
The Proposal
The Day before Christmas Eve 2013, Ricky planned a Romantic proposal and scavenger hunt full of surprises for Katrina at Lorien Spa & Hotel in Alexandria, VA. Led by a trail of roses after a Massage & Spa treatment, gifts, champagne, and jewelry, Katrina said “Yes” to Ricky on bended knee by a fireplace near the lobby of the Lorien. Ricky topped off the proposal with a night in the Presidential Suite and Dinner at Brabo, a sophisticated restaurant located in the hotel.
Their First Date
Ricky and Katrina shared their first date together over brunch at Founding Farmers, a trendy all natural green restaurant in Washington, DC. Ricky picked Katrina up and they took a short drive to Washington, DC were she enjoyed stuffed french toast topped with strawberries & whip cream and a Pink Bellini. Ricky savored chicken and waffles and a Corpse Reviver.
Favorite Activity
Ricky and Katrina’s favorite thing to do as a couple is anything adventurous and traveling. This ranges from outdoor adventures, snorkeling, and vacationing abroad. If it gets the blood flowing they’re all in!
The Engagement Session
The engagement session was not centered around a single theme but the couple really wanted to express a sense of personal style and capture their personalities. Ricky is a quiet yet humorous person while Katrina is charismatic, stylish, and extremely adventurous. The looks were carefully styled by Katrina, who’s first passion lies within the fashion industry.
While many make the Brooklyn Bridge home for their engagement session, not many do it with such style and grace. Jaiden ( their son) added youth and excitement to each scene. The session began on the Brooklyn Bridge and ended up in Dumbo, Brooklyn along the waterfront.
Wedding Planning
While wedding planning has been going along as scheduled, Ricky and Katrina’s desire to deliver a trendy, fresh, and event filled evening has caused for long discussions and some indecisiveness. Being that it is a destination wedding, it causes for even more anxiety as neither one can be directly hands on as they would both prefer. It will be a memorable, yet intimate event.
Ricky has insisted on dark colors and relaxed attire, while Katrina loves the idea of pastels that pop and edgy decor.
Looking Forward to the Wedding
