Now, a Bite Size Coterie Q&A!
1) Tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the wedding and events industry?
I have a full time job; however, I have had this passion to bake and design cakes at any opportunity I could. Be it my daughters’ birthdays or my friends’ weddings. This went on for many years and I was strongly encouraged by my husband and friends to take my talent and passion to another level. This is when I realized that this is something I would love to do as a profession for the rest of my life. This realization in November 2013 changed my life. I have not looked back since. I have continued to generously invest in online professional training, baking tools and equipment. My goal is to eventually transition from the work force to doing what I love on a full time basis. I began my business with the help of my wonderful husband. I am thankful to God for blessing me with this talent. I’m self-taught and I’m so grateful for the smiles that this gift brings to my clients. Cakes and pastries are often made in times of celebration. I take joy and passion in this fact as it allows me to join in creating a small part of the happiness that celebration brings.
2) What do you love most about your job?
Hmmmm…I love creating custom designs based on the elements of a client’s event thus sketching the design and I love the part when it finally comes together.
3) As a company that takes pride in making personalizations for your clients, what would you say have been your favorite personalized creations?
I love and draw inspiration from art, fashion and stunning architectural elements. I’m inspired by how Kate Spade designs features bold stripes or polka dots, bright and metallic colours creating stunning designs out of these colours. Inspired by the Kate Spade colours, I designed a cake for the 2015 Platinum Bride Show (which you can see below) using the cool teal and white with bright hot pink florals and gold metallic. Unfortunately I was unable to display this cake at the show due to not enough space on the table, however that is one of my favourite cakes.

4) There are so many colors and flavors to choose from and so much that goes into creating a fabulous cake…what would you say are some underrated or overused colors, flavors, etc… and what would you encourage for the risk takers out there?
The 2015 wedding cake trends have featured a lot of metallics with bold, warm and sometimes soft colour palettes. The best part of metallics is that they can adapt to any design and style whether modern, contemporary or a vintage look. Adding a touch of metallics give a glam look when not overdone. In terms of flavour, I personally think vanilla cake suffers a lot! The most popular cake flavour my clients request are red velvet, vanilla and chocolate. People get so used to these flavours, it’s sometimes difficult to get them to try a new fun flavour like chi spice cake with chi buttercream…it’s one amazing cake flavour that I would like to see on the cake flavour trending list.
5) What’s something that recently left you inspired?
My beautiful daughters will always be my inspiration. They will say things like “It’s okay, Mommy… you can make it better next time” when a design doesn’t turn out the way I would have hoped it would. They inspire me to be better every day.
