Today, we’re putting the spotlight on the Baltimore-based husband and wife photography team that make up Clapp Studios. Kenny and Mia serve the South Atlantic Region and International Destinations, photographing weddings, engagement sessions, bridal boudoir, and more around the world. Clapp Studios has caught the attention of Fox, The Today Show, and Huffington Post among a host of others and there’s no sign of this duo slowing down. Tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the Photography business:
In 2008, I started shooting parties in clubs as a means to bring in extra income! That same year, I shot my friend’s surprise 30th birthday party which was thrown by her boyfriend. Not only did he surprise her with the party but he surprised her with a marriage proposal too! I hadn’t planned on shooting weddings at that point so when he told me that I needed to do whatever I needed to do to get ready in a year because I was shooting their wedding, I put things in full gear by going to as many workshops as I could to get ready!
What do you love most about the Baltimore wedding scene?
Baltimore is a very eclectic city where you see a lot of quirky things stemming from each neighborhood. I love how that shows up on the wedding day…..whether it’s the cuff links or the cake….Baltimoreans represent with pride!
What trends are you seeing with 2015 brides?
With 2015 brides, we saw where a lot of them incorporated boudoir sessions as gifts to their husbands! It’s been very popular this year!
What advice can you give to couples looking for that perfect photographer?
The best advice is to work out a realistic timeline in which you’re prepared for delays…and of course…communicate early and often with your entire vendor team.
Best moment in your career so far?
The best moment so far would be winning my first photo contest with the WPJA. It was a humbling experience being recognized among photographers from all over the world!
