Courtney and Michael’s love story began on the campus of the University of Central Florida, when one evening Courtney’s sorority sisters decided to play a series of pranks on Michael’s fraternity brothers. That night Courtney was introduced to a new side of Michael she had not yet known – seeing him in a new light. They both left an indelible impression on each other, and from that moment on they began communicating more frequently – getting to know each other further until one day they realized life only truly felt complete when they were together…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Mike and I both attended the University of Central Florida. On the night of March 29, 2009, a few of my best friends and I were bored and wanted to get into some mischief. Since we had a good relationship with Mike’s fraternity brothers, we decided to make them our target and play pranks on all of their cars. We chose Mike as our victim because I knew I could easily get him to come over. We tied him up and put him in the car and made him show us where all his different fraternity brothers lived. That night was filled with so much excitement, laughter, and entertainment. He was a good sport throughout the night and I was able to see a different side to him than the “charming ladies man” persona that he gave off. After that night, our relationship began to cultivate. Texting turned into hanging out, hanging out turned into dating.. and on September 14, 2009, we made it official.
After 6 years of dating, on Valentine’s Day 2015, Mike got down on one knee, on the balcony of our dinner cruise ship, and asked me to marry him. It was super intimate and a surprise to all our family and friends because he kept the proposal a secret from everyone!
How did you know they were “the one”? Throughout our 6 years of dating, our relationship was tested in many ways but with prayer, patience, and passion we knew we were meant to be.
What was wedding shopping like for you? Our wedding style was formal and elegant with some added glitz and glam! Mike and his groomsmen wore dark grey tuxedos with a splash of Tiffany blue and blush (our wedding colors). I wore a blush/champagne mermaid lace dress with a bling headpiece and had my girls in ivory dresses with some added bling to pop. Wedding dress shopping was exhausting and exciting at the same time! I HATE trying on clothing (Avid online shopper) but between my mom and my best friends they wanted to see me in different styles of dresses. Once we arrived to our third store, it was the blush/ champagne dress that my mother picked out that made everyone tear up and I knew had to be the one!
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? For our ceremony we chose to do a sand ceremony which symbolizes the bringing together of two lives into one. During our reception we both participated in greek traditions by performing sweetheart and serenade songs as well as strolling to popular songs from our sorority and fraternity.
What is your best memory from your wedding? Changing into my all sequence reception dress aka “party dress” and partying the night away with my husband, family, and friends. The DJ had us dancing all night until it was time to leave, and we definitely weren’t ready!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? It’s ok to take your time planning your wedding instead of rushing to get it done. Weddings can turn out to be pricey so give yourself time to save money and enjoy being “engaged”! When the big day comes, it’ll be over before you know it so enjoy every minute of the planning process as well as your bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and making memories. And don’t stress out over the little things! It all works out in the end when you have a great team of vendors working with you.
