Their connection stemmed from loss. Both Helsa and Michael had been grieving the loss of a close relative when they met. Helsa had just lost her grandmother, while Michael was dealing with the passing of his father. But they found happiness with each other. With a sense of renewal and open hearts, the couple learned to trust and love again. They easily became best friends and fell deep in love.
The engagement session was intimate in its entirety. The location was the same place where they had shared their first kiss and where Michael asked Helsa to spend eternity with him. They incorporated their pride for their Delta Sigma Theta and Kappa Alpha Psi memberships by wearing custom apparel, showcasing their “Crimson and Cream” connection. Tell us all about the proposal!
On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, Helsa came home and was greeted by a limo driver and a photographer who directed her to a limo. Helsa was caught off guard, so she sent Michael a text, “What is going on?” He responded with a smiley face. At that time she knew her life was about to change. She got into the limo when a bouquet of her favorite flowers where waiting. The limo began to proceed to the route. Helsa just sat back and her mind was going in circles, She did not want to assume anything, so she just sat patiently until she looked out the window and saw Michael standing in the very place they shared their first kiss.
Once Helsa got out of the limo, Michael proceeded to look deeply in her eyes and tell her how much she meant to him. With a photographer capturing every love-filled moment, Michael then went down on one knee, taking Helsa’s hand and asked her to marry him. Helsa, through her happy tears, stated “of course.”
What did you do on your first date?
We went downtown for a bite to eat and continued our conversation by walking by the river where we held hands and shared a first kiss.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Honestly, our favorite thing to do as a couple is to lay together watching a good TV show or movie.
How has wedding planning been so far?
We are making sure that we stay focused on planning for a great marriage, not just planning for a great wedding. We are just excited to be married and keep that at the forefront of our decisions. A wedding is just the icing on the cake, but coming together as one under God is the most important part.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We are both looking forward to seeing each other for the first time when I walk down the aisle. Michael keeps saying he cannot wait to see how beautiful I am, and I can’t wait to see his reaction. I would also have to add that I am excited to hear “you are now husband and wife”. I cannot wait to marry my best friend.
Congrats to the lovely couple! We love their Crimson & Cream connection and can’t wait to see photos from the wedding!
