DoNesha and Osas’s cultural fusion black-tie wedding celebrated Nigerian and Black-American cultures!
DoNesha and Osas first met as undergraduate students at Prairie View A&M University.
Osas surprised DoNesha with a romantic proposal in a high-rise with the perfect view of Houston, Texas. Their closest family and friends were there to celebrate the special moment.
DoNesha and Osas’s wedding was a beautiful blend of modern elements and culture. It was important to them to represent both Osas’s Nigerian culture and DoNesha’s Black-American culture within a one-day celebration.
We knew food was an important representation of our families and hired local Nigerian caterers, in addition to having southern American cuisine. We wed in civil attire and then, greeted our guests in native attire to the music of Benin City, Nigeria, trending afro beats, and of course some R&B and Hip Hop.

Donesha and Osas’s cultural fusion black-tie wedding also celebrated talented Black wedding professionals, who all worked together seamlessly to make their dreams a reality.
I am most proud that my team primarily consisted of Black women. This was a special win… The day reflected my husband and me in intentional ways, and most importantly felt like us.

Wedding Style:
Timeless, classic. We wanted to look back on the photos years from now with our children and fall in love all over again with our wedding day. Being the first in our family to have a “big wedding” of 200 guests, our wedding felt like an accomplishment for everyone who loves us. I don’t think we would have done anything differently. Everything turned out exactly how it should.
I am most proud that my team primarily consisted of Black women. This was a special win. Beginning with my photographer, florist, planner, baker, and of course MUA and hair. Undoubtedly, without the work of the planner, caterers, florists, musicians, bakers, MUAs, and stylists locally and abroad, we would not have had the wedding of our dreams. The day reflected my husband and me in intentional ways, and most importantly felt like us.
Culture:
Our wedding planning journey started with us acknowledging the importance of celebrating two cultures; Nigeria and Black America. It was important for us to include tradition without becoming warped into a wedding spiral.
Early on we chose to have a one-day event, which is not typical for most Nigerian weddings. We knew food was an important representation of our families and hired local Nigerian caterers, in addition to having southern American cuisine – appeasing both guests.
We wed in civil attire (white gown and tux). Then we greeted our guests in native attire to the music of Benin City, Nigeria, trending afro beats, and of course some R&B and Hip Hop. In retrospect, the heart of our wedding was the small Black-owned businesses we knew would bring our special day to life.
