Candace was on a girls trip in New York City when she met Shaun. She’d been dining at a restaurant when he approached her. After a bit of conversation, the two exchanged numbers and ended up spending the entire weekend together. Candace initially thought that Shaun would just be a worth tour guide for her and her girls but what she quickly realized was that there was something significant forming between them. Once she returned home to Dallas the couple began a long distance relationship, leading Shaun to propose exactly a year from the first day they met.
“He surprised me with a picnic in Central Park that he had been promising me while dating. While eating he dropped to his knee and popped the question. Our long distance continued until he moved to Dallas just a few months before the wedding,” she shares.
Candace and Shaun got married in Plano, TX in a dainty fuchsia and silver wedding. Berry blooms was a sweet juxtaposition for the glamourous silver sequin table coverings and metallic candle holders. Soft lights and ivory fabric draped the ceilings of the reception space making the event as magical as it was beautiful. Take a look at their wedding with photos by Allen Tsai.

Describe your wedding dress. What was wedding shopping like for you?Strapless ivory dress with sweetheart neckline with a bling studded belt. Wedding shopping started stressful but my wedding planner and fiance helped make it a smooth process. Shopping for a dress was another ordeal. It took me months and many dresses to try on before finding the one. It took so long I didn’t think I would have my dress in time to get my bridal photos done prior to the wedding. It all worked out in the end as I went with a simple elegant and timeless dress.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
Being from Louisiana and Shaun from Trinidad we added touches to our wedding. My cake and wedding gobo had fleur de Lis. We shared a couple of dances from our culture as well. Zydeco being from Louisiana and Soca music from Trinidad.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
My best memory was being able to share my last dance with my husband. We had the dance floor to ourselves and it was a special moment.
What advice would you give to our brides-to-be?
Lots of communication and patience.
