K’nita and Juan’s enchanting Bridgerton-inspired wedding is featured in Issue No. 32!
Dearest gentle reader,
K’nita and Juan transported themselves and their beloved guests into the Regency era for their enchanting Bridgerton-inspired wedding in Rock Hill, South Carolina!
When K’nita and Juan swiped right on each other, they didn’t yet know the love and connection that would bloom between them.
After getting K’nita’s father’s blessing, Juan planned a sweet proposal for Thanksgiving day. K’nita shares, “My dad told us that he wanted to take a picture of us, and while we were posing for the picture, he told Juan to fix my shoe. When I looked down, he was on one knee, holding the ring box.”
K’nita and Juan’s love of Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton inspired a timeless, romantic, and elegant wedding style, blending regency-styled details and modern sophistication into an enchanting celebration. Guests were in awe of the many nods to the series. Highlights included a musical quartet with period-appropriate pieces, countless lush dusty pink and blue florals, and signature drinks wittily named after characters from the show. Guests were also impressed by their wedding cake, which was surrounded by a floral meadow, adding to the fairytale-like atmosphere.
Perfectly coordinated to feel like a ballroom scene from the show, K’nita and Juan’s best memory from their wedding day was their magical first dance! First, their wedding party joined them on the dance floor, then as the song progressed, they exited the floor leaving only the newly wedded couple to dance among “clouds” and enjoy their special moment.
Juan and Knita’s wedding was a seamless fusion of past and present, whisking guests away to a bygone era of royalty and romance while enveloping them in the joy of a modern-day celebration.

How did you meet?
We swiped right.
Tell us about the proposal.
Juan proposed to me on Thanksgiving Day in front of my family. He got my father’s permission the night before and my dad recorded the moment when Juan proposed. My dad told us that he wanted to take a picture of us and while we were posing for the picture, he told Juan to fix my shoe. When I looked down, he was on one knee, holding the ring box.
Wedding Style:
Romantic, Regency, Timeless. Our wedding theme was Bridgerton.
How was the wedding shopping experience?
It was great overall. I went to three wedding dress stores. I called each place, made appointments in advance, and then created a schedule for my bridal crew. Don’t forget to leave some room for brunch, lunch, or dinner!
I went in with an idea of what I wanted my dress to look like based on my wedding theme, personal taste, body type, and season. I also remained open-minded and tried on dresses that I wouldn’t typically go for. Make sure to take plenty of pictures from different angles so that you can get a 360 view of each dress. Also, “name” the dresses with your bridal crew so that everyone knows which dress you’re referring to when discussing them. Lastly, we picked our top dresses, and luckily for me, it was unanimous.
For the groom, we knew we wanted to go with a custom suit.
He considered our wedding theme and our color palette. He made appointments with two suit places and was able to find his designer based on how flexible and customizable they were. The suit designer let him pick everything from the fabrics, lining, and buttons. They offered a huge selection and he didn’t feel limited.
He even showed them a picture of what he wanted his jacket to look like (long suit tales with gold buttons) and they created it for him. I will say that having so many custom options does make it overwhelming, but the team at OMJ helped make it easier by letting us look at fabrics outside in the natural sunlight and giving their opinions and feedback on his choices.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
We jumped the broom. In African American culture our ancestors that were brought to America weren’t legally allowed to get married. Jumping the broom symbolizes a new beginning and a sweeping away of the past. We also did handfasting, a symbolic act that takes place during a wedding ceremony, where the hands of the couple are bound together with a ribbon or cord, to represent their commitment to each other.
What is your best wedding day memory?
My best memory is our first dance. Our wedding theme was Bridgerton and we wanted our first dance to feel like a ballroom scene on the show. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen started on the dance floor with us and eventually faded away leaving me and the groom to finish our dance. We had the “dancing on clouds” effects to make the dance even more special.
What is your best advice for engaged couples?
Save, save, and save! Weddings are extremely expensive especially if you want a certain theme or have a specific vision in mind. Details matter so make sure you have a good design team, florist, and rental company. DIY is nice, but sometimes you will need to trust the professionals.
Hobby Lobby will be your best friend and they have weekly sales on items you may need like cake-cutting sets, décor, guestbooks, flower girl and ring bearer things, signage, and décor.
Lastly, do your research and come up with an idea of what you want your wedding to look like. Pinterest is a good place to start by making a vision board to share with your planner. Also think about what type of entertainment you will have during your cocktail hour, such as a photo booth or something interactive to entertain your guests and create memories.
