Tell us how you met.
His Version: Demetris and I met at Caledonia Correctional Facility, where we are both correctional officers. We were both working the segregation yard, (she was scared to death) on her first day of assignment. I went to get the food cart and she always made sure that she was somewhere to be seen. After our formal introduction and conversation, she sent me a Facebook friend request and the rest is history.

Her Version: Eugene and I met at Caledonia Correctional Facility, where we are both correctional officers. Eugene was one of the first officers I met during my tour of the facility. We were assigned different units at the facility, but on this particular day he appeared claiming to bring the food cart, but I knew it was to see me.

Tell us about your proposal. It was on July 30, 2016, one week after my birthday. Eugene and I were in Raleigh for a weekend getaway. We were attending lunch at Brasa Steak House. Once we entered the restaurant, to my surprise he had my mother, children, and other family and friends there. During lunch, Eugene approached me, proceeded to get on one knee and proposed. Surprise and joy filled my heart, I said yes! There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Describe your engagement session. Our engagement session was in December, 2016. It was a sunny, cold-crisp day, but the beautiful fall atmosphere filled the air. Our theme was, “Love in the Fall.”

What did you do on your first date? On our first date, Eugene and I went to Fuji Japan Steak House for a lovely dinner. After dinner, we went back to my house, snuggled up, and watched movies.

What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We both love to travel, especially to the beach.

How has the wedding planning been so far? So far it’s been crazy and fun all at the same time.

Tell us what you are looking forward to most on the wedding day? Eugene is looking forward to seeing his bride in her beautiful wedding gown. I am looking forward to becoming Mrs. Eugene Young. We are both looking forward to our wedding day, and our 90’s wedding reception theme party.
