We’re bringing you part III of our DIY Valentine’s Day video series entitled, Pulled Together, produced by Mae B Films. So far you’ve learned how to make an elegant centerpiece and how to design a romantic dinner table. In this video, you’ll learn how to make some tasty his and hers cocktails.
Cocktails – Made by Pulled Together
My love of cooking is matched by my love of a good cocktail. Enjoying a good drink while creating a meal, whether wine or a cocktail, just seems as customary as grace before eating. For this special meal I thought it would be really cool to create two cocktails a man and a woman would love yet both made with the currently in-season blood brange. For myself, I re-created the legendary Old Fashioned by substituting the blood orange for the traditional orange. This citrus infused whiskey cocktail is timeless and is as American as…well, Valentines Day itself. So delicious, you’ll end up making this as often as blood oranges are available at the local market. For Her, I knew she loved Prosecco and especially cocktails with sparkling wine. Combining blood orange, cointreau with Prosecco just felt romantic as hell to me. It’s a simple concoction with a very light yet floral citrusy taste perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Blood Orange Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 slice blood orange
- 1 Maraschino cherry
- 1 1/2 oz Bourbon
- 2 dashes of bitters
- Splash of soda water
- Ice
- In a double rocks glass, muddle the cherry and blood orange in the sugar. Remove orange slice.
- Add bitters and bourbon and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add ice.
- Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a blood orange peel.
Blood Orange Prosecco Cocktail:
- 1 fresh blood orange juice
- 1 cup Cointreau or other orange liqueur
- 1 750-ml bottle chilled Prosecco or sparkling wine

Juice a blood orange. Mix juice and Cointreau together. Pour in glass and top with Prosecco. Garnish with blood orange peel and cherry.
