On a warm November Sunday morning, Brittany, a home therapist for children with various mental health disorders and Montegus, who works for Old Dominion Freight Line, have saved the date for an October 13, 2016 wedding in Greensboro, North Carolina.
It’s been ten years since Brittany met Montegus at work, at Best Buy and trained him on the job. Montegus proposed at the same park the two spent their very first date, which led to quite an exciting impromptu Downtown Raleigh engagement session!
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
We met ten years ago while working at Best Buy; I trained Montegus as a cashier. Then I trained him again, at a call center we both worked at four years later. A few years later, we linked up through social media… he used to like and comment on every picture.
In April 2015, I went to DC for a girl’s trip and he slid a ring box in my suitcase. When I called him, he told me it was a pre-engagement ring to wear. On May 17th, we were heading to my brother’s high school graduation cookout. Montegus said his friend, who is a photographer, was at the park (where we had our first date) doing a photoshoot and he said he should stop by since it was on the way. We were already running late so I was slightly frustrated. When we got there, we were walking around looking for him.
Then, I heard music playing, “Matrimony” by Wale. Montegus called me over and handed me a box, I opened the box to find another box that had a post-it note that read “Remember me?” It was the box he hid in my suitcase in April. My heart was racing. I opened the box to find another box that said “Open Me,” and I did. There was a ring box. He took the box, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. He told me that his friend was supposed to be there to take pictures… I turned and saw his friend walking out of the trees. He had been taking pictures the entire time. We then had an impromptu engagement shoot in the park!
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date had four parts, he went all out. First, we went to a park near his college, NC A&T and walked around. We then went to dinner followed by bowling, pool and an arcade. Our second date was the very next day!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to eat and travel! We take a lot of day trips and like to explore by finding festivals, food tastings, and tours. We also love finding interesting places and trying new food together.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been awesome. We have been blessed to have amazing vendors that have made the process seamless, especially since we are super busy and involved in so much!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We are looking forward to the party and food, of course! We want all of our guests to enjoy themselves and feel like it’s a celebration from beginning to end!
