When Tamika and Jamal met, they were searching for apartments, but what they found was a lasting love connection.
Tamika recalls, “While in the leasing office, we got on the topic of why relationships don’t work between millennials. As I was walking to my car, I heard footsteps. It was Jamal saying ‘let me show you all men aren’t the same,’ and the rest is history.” Smooth move!
With the help of family and friends, Jamal proposed during a trip to a winery. Tamika reminisces, “As we arrived and began the tour, I heard music start to play. I turned around and saw my now fiance down on one knee, family, and friends behind him. It was simply the best day ever.”
For their engagement session, the couple wanted to capture a vibe that was simple, elegant, and edgy. Their fun-loving personalities shine through in every photo beautifully captured by Terri Baskin Photography. See their lovely shoot below.

How did you meet?
We met while looking for apartments. Tamika lived in Virginia at the time and wanted to be closer to work. Jamal lived in DC and wanted to move closer to his parents. While in the leasing office we got on the topic of why relationships don’t work between millennials. As I was walking to my car I heard footsteps. It was Jamal saying “let me show you all men aren’t the same” and the rest is history.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date we ordered soul food and talked for hours.
Tell us your proposal story
It was a total surprise! My friends and family were in on it. My best friend told me she won tickets to a winery tour. She told me to make sure to have my hair and nails were done because it was going to be a nice event (I didn’t think anything of it). So the day of the proposal, my friends came over to get ready that morning. After getting dolled up, we headed to the winery. As we arrived and began the tour, I heard music start to play. I turned around and saw my now fiance down on one knee, family, and friends behind him. It was simply the best day ever.
