How they met?
Aisatou and Mohamed met on social media when Mohamed’s sister tagged both of them in a photo of his niece.
Mohamed was “curious to see who she was, so [he] slid in her DM.”
Eventually Mohamed’s sister introduced them and the rest is history!
The proposal…
Mohamed wanted his proposal to be beautiful and extravagant.
So, he rented a New York City rooftop to pop the question! He decorated the space with 5 feet marquee lights that read “marry me” and had a bed of rose petals on the ground.
To make things even more special, he invited 12 of Aisatou’s closest friends to attend. He told them that “it was a surprise graduation party as Aisatou had just finished her RN program.”
Now he just needed to figure out how to keep Aisatou from noticing any red flags. He decided to ask one of his friend to invite her to a “nursing gala” where Aisatou thought she would be networking with black nurses.
When Aisatou and his friend arrived, Mohamed was standing on the rose petals in front of the marry me sign.
He remembers, “When Aisatou saw what was going on she turned around and walked the other direction. I was so nervous, but she was also in shock.” Thankfully a few seconds later she returned. “I can’t even remember what I said to her as I was so nervous but she said yes!!”
When they knew they found “the one”…
Aisatou knew Mohamed was the one the first day the met in person!
She says, “He was tall, chocolate and so handsome. He made me laugh right way and I felt safe and comforted. The way he would look at me was very passionate and from that day I knew this was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”
Mohamed knew Aisatou was the one when he found out his entire family already knew her.
He says, “Getting my family to like anyone is a challenge. When I met her I was stunned by her beauty and her intellect. One of the things that cemented that I would marry her was how caring she was and how she would always check up on me and see how my day was going and if I had eaten. When I would ell her no I didn’t eat yet I’m too busy she would get mad and say you need to eat or I’m going to come to your job and bring you food. Now that’s real Love!”
The engagement session…
The overarching theme of their engagement session was elegance.
From the colors they wore, the location, to Mohamed’s socks – Aisatou picked everything out herself.
She said: “these are the photos the world is going to see and I need us to be magazine ready.” And the really were!
Mohamed adds, “The session was amazing and she made sure we had Stanlo!”
The first date…
Their first date was on December 5th, 2015 to a restaurant called Phillipe Chow.
Over dinner, they “had a very deep conversation about life and what [they] were looking for in a relationship.” They had a great time, laughed, and even had their first kiss (which Aisatou says “was magical!”).
During their date, Mohamed eventually revealed he didn’t want to waste her time and that he wanted her to be his girlfriend.
Aisatou says: “there was something about him that I said yes and we’ve been together ever since.”
Favorite thing to do as a couple…
“We love to dress up and go out on dates and try out new restaurants.”
Wedding planning so far…
So far, wedding planning for this loved-up couple has been going well.
Aisatou says, ” We selected our venue, vendors and guests we want to invite.” Now they’re mostly just looking forward to tying-the-knot!
What they’re looking forward to most on their wedding day…
Mohamed is most looking forward to seeing “the love of [his] life walking down the aisle in her wedding dress.” He’s dreamed about that day since the moment he asked Aisatou to be his wife, but to actually see it happen will be so surreal.
For Aisatou, she’s most looking forward to “spending the rest of [her] life with Mohamed and seeing all of [their] friends and family in one room.”
She adds, “Oh yeah and I’m looking forward to our dance moves!”
