On how they met…
“Our story is unique, yet it has a dream-filled ending!! Derek lives in Brooklyn, NY and I live in San Diego, CA. We met online at Blackpeoplemeet.com in January of 2009 on a dating website, and after meeting, we remained friends for a year by talking on the phone and taking advantage of the web cam. Around January of 2010 that friendship grew into something more. On March 14th, 2010 Derek asked if I would be his girlfriend, I said yes!! We then decided to take that next step to meeting each other and on May 28th of 2010 Derek flew me to New York for 5 days (this was one of the “craziest” things I ever did, and I am so glad I listened with my heart) and from that moment on our relationship just kept growing. Thank You God!!!
DISTANCE MEANS SO LITTLE WHEN SOMEONE MEANS SO MUCH!!”
The proposal…
“I was soooooo shocked and of course I cried!! After eating, the waitress brought me a birthday cake and Derek told me to make a wish, so I did (Oh, and by the way, my wish was for Derek to propose… Hehe!!) So I made my wish, and than Derek told me to close my eyes and do it again, so I did and when I opened them he had the box on the table in front of me…He got up, got on his knee and proposed!! And of course I cried!! It was beautiful!! I then called my mom and dad to tell them the good news not knowing Derek had already called to ask for my hand in marriage. The day could not have been any more perfect!!My honey is sooooo AMAZING!!! So I went out to New York for my birthday which was on June 2nd.. After arriving, I was soooo upset with Derek because he did not do anything for my birthday (so I thought) and he was having sooo much fun making me believe that it was no big deal for him… So on this particular Saturday, Derek woke-up early that morning and said he had to go to work, which I thought nothing of since he had taken the day off for my birthday!! Later that afternoon, around 3pm, two of my girlfriends picked me up to go out to dinner (not knowing they were a part of the plan) they made so many excuses why we could not go straight to the restaurant. I was sooooo hungry and was getting very frustrated.. Finally, we left to go to one of my favorite West Indian restaurants in Brooklyn, FOOTPRINTS and when we arrived, Derek was there with his mom, family and friends for a surprise birthday party!!!!”
