This classy engagement session stroll around the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park is a play on the Groom-to-be’s last name, Lord, with castle vibes fit for nobility!
Rommie Pierre and Masai Lord are tying the knot this month on March 25th, 2023, at the luxurious Park Chateau Estate & Gardens in New Jersey. In keeping with their royal castle theme, we are excited to present their lovely engagement photos by MunaCoterie Photographer, Linda McQueen!
Captured at Fort Tryon Park and the Cloisters, the pair’s walkabout New York is effortlessly stylish! Wearing one casual look (featuring white pants with feather trim for Rommie and a white ensemble with a salmon jacket for Masai), their second formal outfits were equal parts glam and classy with Rommie in a one-shoulder, black sparkly gown, and Masai in a sleek black tux.
The unique location stood out to the couple because of Masai’s last name: Lord. Rommie shares, “We picked Fort Tryon because it reminds us of a castle fit for a Lord.” And it certainly does! The historic park sets the scene for a rustic atmosphere, reminding us of old castles and a romantic bygone era.

How they met…
It was 2018 and after being single for three years I was ready to put myself out there. My friend suggested I sign up for a dating app; I downloaded Coffee Meets Bagel, created a profile, and matched with Masai a week later. I thought he was cute, so I took the initiative and sent the first message.
He, of course, took FOREVER to respond lol but once he did… let’s just say it took us a while to get into the swing of the conversation. We eventually exchanged numbers and what started off as awkward text messages turned into hours-long conversations on the phone. We’ve been love-gazed chatterboxes ever since!
Their first date…
Masai: I had planned a nice romantic date. We were going to walk down to the Pier at Brooklyn Bridge Park – then eat a nice dinner at a restaurant on a boat. However, the weather was the worst lol, and it was super pouring rain.
I, of course, had not checked the weather report so I was completely caught by surprise and was open to suggestions at that point. She suggested a Haitian restaurant near Barclays Center, which sounded great. It was my first time eating Haitian food, and it was good! But, whew, expensive lol.
The proposal…
Rommie: Masai told me there would be a gala honoring an attorney that he works with and asked me to be his plus one. I didn’t know what to expect but I knew that a “gala” meant “dress to impress” and that is exactly what I intended to do.
My sister and friends helped me pick out the perfect dress. I was sincerely out of the loop at first, but after days of our friends and family dropping hints, I started putting two and two together. I played along though.
The day of the “gala” arrived and there we were, walking into a beautifully decorated space filled with our closest friends and family — many of whom I was genuinely surprised to see. Masai asked me to marry him and now we’re planning our wedding.
When they knew they found “the one”…
Masai: For me, it wasn’t one moment, but simply a quiet re-affirming since we met that she was the one. I loved her compassion, her kindness and understanding, and support. She is incredibly selfless and really appreciative. Every day we dated just confirmed again and again that this was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Rommie: I knew Masai was the one after our 2nd date. I knew in my heart that this is the person that God had chosen for me and being with him felt so natural. Masai is my safe place whether I’m happy, worried, or scared. He is my biggest supporter who also keeps me grounded and reminds me that I can do anything. It’s not every day that you find someone who embraces your family and culture.
Engagement session & theme…
For our engagement session, we wanted it to reflect who we are as a couple and also do something creative because of Masai’s last name: Lord. We picked Fort Tryon because it reminds us of a castle fit for a Lord.
Favorite thing to do as a couple…
We’re international superstars and the soundtrack of our love story is our passports. But on a serious note, we love traveling and immersing ourselves in different cultures. Chatting with the locals and sourcing out the best food options is always a treat.
Wedding planning so far…
Wedding planning has been great so far! We have an amazing team of vendors, and we can’t wait for the big day.
What they’re looking forward to most…
I am looking forward to celebrating with our families. My family members are all coming from out of state or abroad, so I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
