When did you get married and where? We were married 2013 at the Excellence Resort in Rivera Maya, Mexico.
What was your wedding like? Our wedding was an absolute dream…beachy, ethereal and intimate.
As you celebrate your anniversary, what do you remember most about your wedding day? There’s one moment of our wedding that is really special to both of us. During our reception, the DJ dropped Frankie Beverly and Maze and all of Erin’s family ran to the dance floor and pulled my family along with them. Erin’s dad danced with my grandmother, my aunts and Erin’s aunts started a soul train line. Erin and I stopped to take it all in, despite our families’ differences in culture they had come to genuinely love and enjoy one another.
Was there anything you would have done differently for your wedding? I would take some time to rehearse in my dress. I never rehearsed in my wedding dress as most brides don’t. The aisle of my wedding included steps that led down to the beachfront and I didn’t realize how challenging it would be to make it past the steps in my wedding gown. Luckily my father was at my side to help me through that moment!
What are your favorite things to do as a couple? We are high school sweethearts, we do everything together! Our favorite thing to do together is to travel.
Who cooks? Steve! He is a beast in the kitchen and on the grill. Who doesn’t love a man that can cook?!
Do you have any children or pets? No kids. No pets
When it comes to Career, what do both of you do and how do you make time for each other? A few years ago we traveled to Thailand and decided to document the trip through film. We found a hidden gift for cinematography and since have founded Sok Vision, our own film making company. We love it, nothing strengthens communication skills like working with a spouse!
What would you say are the most important elements for a successful marriage? Communication. Friendship. Honesty. Prayer. Therapy…yes even the healthiest relationships could benefit from therapy.
How do you keep the spark in your marriage? In the busyness of life – prioritize having fun. Having fun with your spouse keeps the friendship alive.
Tell us about the shoot. What inspired it? This year makes five years of matrimony; were officially no longer newlyweds! We’ve spent the last five years doing the inner work of setting a strong foundation for our marriage. Now we’re ready for the next chapter in our lives.
What do you love most about them? Steve: “Erin is strong, sassy, but most importantly she has ALWAYS challenged me to be better.”
Erin: “Steve prioritizes the health of our relationship, emotionally and spiritually. He is a solid man. I can always look at him and see God’s love for me being mirrored.”
What advice can you give for newlyweds? Build healthy communication habits from day one of your marriage. Love selflessly.
