Adam and Shiveta’s 3-day wedding celebration culminated in a colorful pink ceremony at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts!
With tributes to Ethiopian – Oromo and Islamic traditions, as well as North Indian and Hindu traditions, their 3-day wedding celebration was a beautiful showcase of love and culture.
Day one began with the ancient Indian tradition of adorning the bride and groom with beautiful body art called Mehndi. This practice wishes the couple luck and blesses their union with good fortune, health, and prosperity.
On the second day, Adam and Shiveta honored Islamic customs with a traditional Muslim marriage ceremony called Nikah. In this intimate ceremony, the bride and groom both sign a marriage contract consenting to their union.
The final day concluded with a colorful pink traditional wedding designed by Kahani Events & Design with American and Hindu flair at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. A lively reception filled with music, dancing, and great food ended their wedding celebrations on a high note!

How we met…
It’s debatable…but at Macalester College – through friends.
Our proposal story…
Adam was trying to propose a number of times, but there always seemed to be something random happening to keep it from happening. One day he accidentally/jokingly proposed while bantering, and then actually pulled out a ring!
Day 2: Nikah
Incorporating our cultures…
We were incorporating quite a bit from both Ethiopian – Oromo & Islamic traditions, as well as North Indian & Hindu traditions, and fusing it all with American style as well!
Day 3: Traditional Wedding
Our wedding style & attire…
Shiveta wore a pink Rabani & Rakha lehngha and Adam wore a deep purple sherwani. Both are from Raaz, Inc in Chicago.

Adam: It was nice to sit and enjoy everything while everyone was making speeches, and really reflect on the whole day.
Shiveta: The first dance was our first breather and first moment to revel in being together! Coming down the staircase was another fun part to walk into the reception, seeing everyone, seeing the space beautifully decorated, and a whole party to celebrate our day!
Advice for other engaged couples…
Get a wedding planner, it’s an investment and it’s well worth it. Getting a photographer and overall vendors – DJ & others you can vibe with is also sooo important. Also – things are going to wrong – thats just life, just focus on the little moments and the day as a whole. Keep the dessert simple!
