The Sweetheart neckline is one that is scalloped over the breast with a focal on the lower middle point, creating the shape of the top half of a heart. Most frequently, the sweetheart neckline is featured on a gown that is either strapless or shoulderless. The cut accentuates the bust, making it appear fuller and I must confess that it is my favorite, as we have styled the majority of our clients in this classic but very popular neckline this year. Though all body types can rock a gown with a sweetheart neckline, women with larger busts require more support such as boning and/or straps.
In honor of Fashion Friday, here are four sweetheart inspired gowns from Ines Di Santo and Carolina Herrera‘s Spring 2014 collection.

This neckline is very attractive, delicate, and found on many of the popular styles of gowns.

Styling Tip:
The type of necklace that compliments a sweetheart neckline is one that hits the collarbone. The length doesn’t draw the eyes toward the cleavage of the bust, helping to maintain the modesty of the gown.

There are several styles of the sweetheart gown that features a sheer overlay which provides extra support. I had the pleasure of styling this lovely model in this gorgeous Berta gown, which would be ideal for a bride who requires additional coverage and a dash of glam.
Tell me, what’s your most flattering neckline? Even if you are not tying the knot!
