Flynne and Jamar’s love story began in Miami, where Flynne was attending law school and Jamar was a working attorney. Though they both went to Howard University, it wasn’t until they were introduced by mutual friends that a connection was made, and their love began to take shape… It wasn’t long before Jamar began to realize he had found his perfect partner, and with the help of Flynne’s family was able to coordinate their perfect Christmas day proposal…

Occupations: Attorneys
Wedding date: 12/31/17
Wedding location: Renaissance Dallas Hotel- Dallas, Texas
Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Although Flynne and Jamar both went to Howard University, they didn’t meet until Flynne moved to Miami for law school. Jamar was already living there and working as an attorney. Flynne’s sorority sister and Jamar’s fraternity brother introduced them.
Jamar proposed on Christmas Day 2016. That morning, Jamar flew to Dallas to surprise Flynne at her grandparent’s house. Flynne’s whole family helped coordinate the surprise. Jamar rang the doorbell, walked in, and proposed!
Describe your wedding attire. Wedding shopping was fun for the both us! I found my dress, shoes, and jewelry while shopping with my mom, grandmother, and sister in various cities throughout the planning year. Jamar also enjoyed choosing and getting fitted for his custom tuxedo.
My wedding gown, hair, makeup, jewelry, and shoes were inspired by classic, old Hollywood glam with a touch of bling. The wedding gown was a satin, fit and flare style with a beaded applique bodice and open illusion back by Allure. The gown was sleeveless with a plunging neckline and had alternating satin and crystal floating buttons from the top of the back to the bottom of the train.
Jamar wore a custom-made ivory evening jacket with a shawl collar and black tuxedo pants. Jamar’s black vest was a modern take on an English morning vest, finished with custom buttons and his great-grandfather’s gold pocket watch.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We had a traditional Christian ceremony and also jumped the broom as a symbol of the journey into our new life together.
Wedding party gifts: Bridesmaids: silk robe, earrings, bracelet, ballet slipper flats, touch-up lipstick. Groomsmen: engraved cufflinks.
Gifts for each other: Jamar to Flynne – Antique keepsake box and heartfelt letter.
Flynne to Jamar – Playstation and heartfelt letter.
Ceremony entrance song: “No Limit” by G-Eazy, Cardi B, and A$AP Rocky
First dance song: “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.
What is your best memory from your wedding? Our best memories from the wedding were the ones made partying with our family and friends. We had a welcome happy hour, rehearsal dinner, club outing, New Year’s Eve wedding and
reception/party, after party, brunch, and New Year’s Day dinner. Seeing all of our closest friends and family come together as one to celebrate us was very special!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Wedding planning can be very stressful and overwhelming. We suggest that other couples take time to remember that the most important part of it all is the marriage; all the other details will fall into place. We would also recommend that couples stay organized by using an online planning system and keeping all important documents saved in one location because there are a lot of details to manage.
