They say third times a charm…Jonathan and Alexis met back in undergrad school at Prairie View A&M University. But a love connection wasn’t made at their first acquaintance. Instead, they remained close friends throughout undergrad and even after, and it took eight years (and three attempts made by Jonathan) before Alexis agreed to be his girlfriend. But, it didn’t take long for Jonathan to realize Alexis was the woman he wanted to grow old with. The day after Christmas, he planned a private surprise proposal in San Antonio and tomorrow, October 2nd, the pair will be tying the knot. We look forward to seeing all the beauty unfold under the direction of their planner, Lahoma of Events Unleashed. We wish you the best Alexis and Jonathan, and thanks for sharing your love story with us!

The engagement session:
“Our engagement shoot was phenomenal. We were able to shoot with one of our favorite, published photographers, Maryna Marston. Our shoot was scheduled for 4:30pm on Saturday, and naturally, it rained until 4pm. The luxury of living in Texas is that the rain dries up in seconds. The sun came out and the rest of the day was beautiful. Jonathan, who is 100% type A, wanted the pictures to exude “perfection” so the minute the camera came out the nervousness did as well. He realized how much of a beginner he was at posing for the camera. Little did he know he was a natural. I enjoyed experiencing this moment with my future hubby. We now have a new memory together and the pictures to share with generations to come.”
What did you do on your first date?
“Our first date was completely spontaneous. Jonathan called me on a Thursday evening proposing that I paid him a visit in Austin, TX for the weekend. I lived in Houston at the time, about a 2 ½ hr drive away. Single, with no plans and a serious crush on my now fiance, I accepted his offer. Friday after work I hopped in my car and drove to Austin. I did not know what to expect and neither did he. We spoke on the phone the whole way there but never actually made plans. Surprisingly, we are still pretty spontaneous when it comes to having fun. I arrived in Austin and was greeted by the warmest smile and spin-around hug. Jonathan was thinking, “finally” this woman I have been trying to pursue was finally at my front door. I did not know this until years later. We decided together that we just wanted to have a relaxing weekend with one another; a Netflix and chill type of weekend. We went to the grocery store, bought ingredients to make a homemade pizza, drinks (non -alcoholic), grabbed a few movies and went back to the house. We literally spent the entire weekend relaxing and enjoying one another. We knew at that moment we had something special. With very little, we were so filled with happiness and peace. After that weekend we never lost touch which one another.”
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? “If we had to chose one thing, it would be traveling and mingling with the locals.”
How has wedding planning been so far?
“Lets just say we both realized we went to school for the wrong thing and need to invest in a wedding planning business. Weddings are EXPENSIVE! All jokes aside, we have a wonderful wedding planner, family and friends that have been incredible resources; relieving most of the common stress couples face when planning a wedding. Picking out the menu is definitely the most challenging part for us.”
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
“What Jonathan looks forward to the most is seeing his best friend of 9 years walk down the aisle towards him. “The first look at my bride the day of the wedding is what I am looking forward to the most.” For me, I am looking forward announcing to the world and God that I do take Jonathan as my husband, to love, cherish and honor, for better or worse, for as long as we both shall live.”
