It can be very awkward when you realize that your feelings for your friend have evolved from platonic to romantic. However, Jarvis knew he had to follow his heart and ask his college study buddy, Tia, out on a date. She was breathtakingly beautiful, smart (they were both Pharmacy majors), and they shared similar interests. To calm Tia’s fears of crossing the line from friendship to romance, Jarvis decided to keep their first date light. They went to see a movie and they laughed and joked all night.
Four years later, these college sweethearts were engaged in front of friends and family. It was a heartwarming surprise proposal. Tia shares, “[Jarvis] gathered a group of my closest friends, wrote ‘Marry ME?’ on individual papers for them to hold, and surprised me at my mom’s hair salon. My answer was YES!”
This gorgeous couple is working with ellyB Events to ensure their vintage inspired wedding is planned to perfection. To celebrate their engagement, they teamed up with Cathi Milanes of Milanes Photography to create an e-session that reflects their wedding theme: Hollywood Glam! With an e-session this gorgeous, we cannot wait to see what ellyB and Cathi have in store for Tia and Jarvis’ March wedding. Congrats!
How They Met/ The Proposal
Jarvis and I met in Pharmacy school at Florida A &M University. We studied together for months and eventually Jarvis asked me to go to the movies with him. I was very hesitant to cross that line of friendship. He sensed my hesitation and stated “It’s only a movie….I’m not asking you to marry me.” Lets just say that I took that as a challenge. Four years later, he gathered a group of my closest friends wrote “Marry ME?’ on individual papers for them to hold and surprised me at my mom’s hair salon. My answer was YES!
Their First Date
Jarvis took me to the movies to see “Righteous Kill” with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. It was awkward at first because we were friends so long before I accepted the date. I was nervous and I pushed a door that was clearly marked pull. First joke of many that night. The movie was a suspense thriller and we ended up competing with each other about who could guess the ending.
Favorite Activity as A Couple
As a couple , we spend a lot of time together. Going to the movies, Eating at new restaurants, and watching our favorite T.V. shows.
The Engagement Session
My theme for the wedding is Hollywood Glam. I spoke with Cat and told her I wanted clean lines for the causal, first part of the shoot, and full out Glam for the second half. The end result of that conversation was Cat taking her artistry to the next level. I just gave her some random thoughts and the talent of our photographer produced the final looks!
Wedding Planning
It has been a breeze with a wedding planner like Eliana. I’m sure the closer we get to the date , I’ll naturally start to stress. But It has been great so far!
Looking Forward to the Wedding
I’m excited to share this time with our families and enjoy this great party, but I am most excited to be united with my love and start our lives together.
