Though Funke and Jide met on a blind date their hearts were seeing more clearly than ever, recognizing their soul’s mate in each other. That first date quickly led to a second, followed by a third, and with each date came further reassurance that the connection they shared together was anything but ordinary – this was something special, something meant to be…

Bride & Groom: Olufunke & Babajide

Wedding Date: August 18th 2018
Wedding Location: Chapelle Expiatoire, Paris, France

Jide planned their perfect proposal for Cinco de Mayo of 2016, at the place in which they first met. Telling Funke that they were attending a professional event, she was more than pleasantly surprised to find all of her friends and family wishing her a happy belated birthday. As the “birthday party” continued, unbeknownst to Funke, this multifaceted celebration was about to reveal its biggest surprise. Halfway into the evening, the wall to the room next door opens to reveal Jide with a stunning engagement ring in hand, as he asks Funke to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife. In Funke’s words, “it was an absolute dream!”
For Funke, wedding shopping was an “easy and fast” experience, having selected the second dress she tried on from Kleinfeld Bridal, New York – “once I tried that, I didn’t try any other ones, I knew that was ‘the one.’” On her wedding day she was gorgeous walking down the aisle in a mermaid/trumpet style Pnina gown, with custom veil and Aquazurra shoes. Jide was handsomely sophisticated in a limited edition Tom Ford tuxedo and Christian Louboutin Mohair dress shoes. Their wedding was an unforgettable luxe, elegant and fun event at the Chapelle Expiatoire in Paris, France.
Gifts for Each Other: I got Jide two Cartier wedding bands (gold/rose gold) because that’s how amazing he is and I wanted him to have something exciting and memorable for that day.
Ceremony Entrance Song: Live Harpist
First Dance Song: “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion (Jide says he always thinks of me when he hears it).
Best Memories: The best memory from my wedding was walking into the absolutely breathtaking chapel. I will never forget that exact moment. I took one step inside, looked up and could feel the presence of God. It was an amazing outer body experience. As if I was stepping out of my past and into my future.
Advice for Engaged Couples: I would advise anyone to do what is best for you and your partner. Not what people expect or want you to do. A few months after Jide proposed we found out I was pregnant and cancelled our plans for a wedding in Mexico. We started planning for houston and then I became pregnant again. Once that happened we said let’s just go to Paris after this one is born. We were in desperate need of just us time so off we went.
