The proposal…
We met nearly 10 years ago at a mutual friend’s graduation and have been nearly inseparable ever since. Ricardo planned the sweetest proposal at Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston, TX. What started out as what I thought was a girl’s lunch date ended up with my friends purposely ditching me (I’m still upset lol), Ricardo scooping me up like prince charming, and whisking me off for a little adventure. We started by putting a lock with the day’s date (10/19/19) on the Houston love lock bridge then went for a walk in the park next door. Before I knew it he was on one knee asking me to be his wife. He then whisked me away yet again for an amazing surprise engagement party with all of my family and friends from near and far (he had been coordinating this party with all of my family for months). It was the most thoughtful and perfect proposal!
Wedding style & shopping experience…
My wedding dress was classic, elegant, and dramatic! Shopping was unique as it was in the middle of the pandemic and I couldn’t bring any friends or siblings along. I had my sweet mom and mother in law with me and my sisters Facetimed in once I found the one. I’m pretty decisive so I know very quickly what I liked and disliked. After trying on about four dresses, we landed on “the one.” I made several custom adjustments to the dress, veil, and train in order to create the dress I was envisioning. Overall I would say it was a very smooth and relatively easy process for me.
Celebrating culture…
I am Nigerian and my husband is Bajan. We had a traditional Nigerian wedding the same weekend as our formal wedding. While keeping with the traditional Yoruba customs for the wedding, we incorporated the Bajan culture with food and music to create one big celebration of love and mixed cultures. (Nothing better than a Nigerian AND Caribbean party!)
Favorite memories…
I have two, the first being our entrance into our reception, we genuinely had so much fun… the 2nd was definitely Ricardo serenading me in front of all of our guests on the dance floor.
Wedding advice…
Make wedding decisions that will make YOU happy at the end of the day and don’t sweat the small details, your guests probably won’t even notice. Also, make sure you eat, drink and actually have fun with each other on your day!
