Sometimes trials and disappointments test our faith in love. But don’t give up, because love always wins.
Chey had become a single parent father after the mother of his children passed away. Shavon was divorced and focused on her ministry. Neither one of them was looking for love, but God brought them together at the perfect time.
It started with Chey leaving comments on Shavon’s social media page admiring her style. (He is a fashion stylist!) However, Chey soon realized that he was enamored with Shavon, and decided to respectfully send her a message to let her know that she was gorgeous. She responded, and it led to weeks of speaking on the phone for hours and an eventual first date.
Their chemistry was immediate. Shavon shares, “It didn’t take long for us to realize the love we had for each other and to acknowledge that God had sent us both what we were praying for.” It was all in God’s Timing!
Watch them speak about their inspiring love story in the video below shot by MunaCoterie member Eric Blanks Media, and see their gorgeous engagement photos captured by Derek Blanks Media below!

How did you meet?
Cheyenne reached out to me by way of social media. The conversations and love grew from there.
What did you do on your first date?
Since we resided in different states, we decided to meet at a halfway point which was in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. Chey arrived first. When I arrived, I hopped out of the car with excitement and gave him a big hug and kiss on the cheek. The first date consisted of a romantic dinner and long conversations that followed. The chemistry was immediate and we enjoyed the next few days together touring the local attractions and enjoying nice dining.
Tell us your proposal story.
It didn’t take long for us to realize the love we had for each other and to acknowledge that God had sent us both what we were praying for. There were a lot of exciting things going on with both of our families at the time: graduations, college commitments, birthdays.
Initially, Chey had planned an elaborate engagement in front of all of our family in friends in Virginia. I had a feeling that he was planning something elaborate and mentioned to him that I did not want anything big, but would rather have an intimate proposal. This was literally one week before he planned to propose. After that discussion, he had to regroup and try another approach.
While visiting New Jersey the following weekend with my closest family members, Cheyenne decided that it was time. He called his niece and had her to set up a romantic picnic in our yard. It was the afternoon of June 7, 2020. I was in the house preparing for the day and he called me outside. I walk out to a beautiful ambiance with flowers, balloons, and a nicely prepared brunch. As I looked over, I saw those whom I loved standing there. Chey proceeded to get on one knee and ask for my hand in marriage. I was totally surprised, but it was all that I could have ever imagined.
Describe your engagement session.
The engagement session was very exciting. We knew we wanted to be out of the box and have an engagement session that matched our style. Mid-town Atlanta was the perfect place to capture the essence of our love and relationship. The photographer was amazing and captured our chemistry perfectly. We could not have asked for a better experience.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Travel and explore new things.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been intense and exciting at the same time. We have worked well together with the support of family and friends and everything has been greater than we could have imagined.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together and being able to share the moment with family and friends. Of course, we can’t wait to be husband and wife and be able to cully embrace and celebrate one another.
