How did you two first meet?
In 2017, both Jarrett and I seemingly put the idea of finding a partner on the back burner of our lives’. However, at the time we occasionally dabbled on dating sites. One day, Jarrett sent me a message, we became aquatinted and then exchanged phone numbers. After an amazing four-hour conversation, we felt the need to meet in person because the immediate connection was undeniable. At the end our first date, which started with brunch and ended sometime after dinner hours, we sort of looked at each other and knew we were in this for the long run. Needless to say, we deleted our dating app the very next day and have been together ever since.
What makes your relationship special?
We love entertaining together. When we decided to move into a shared space, we envisioned a place where our friends and family could gather and create memories. We enjoy serving as hosts and hostesses to those closest to us. We have had several celebratory events and gatherings that focused on good food and a relaxing vibe. Our goal is to have anyone that comes to our home feel as though they want to come back as soon as possible!
How did you know your partner was the one?
Our first date was an unexpected transition from ‘I am open to meeting and learning about a new person’ to ‘I have met the person I’d like to spend my life learning and building with’. Upon our first few conversations, we expressed the depth of what we were feeling and Jarrett casually mentioned, ‘we can get you a ring right now.’ I told him not to play with me, but I saw he was being sincere. I was captivated that not only did we share the same feelings, but I also met someone who recognized the importance of not shying away from falling in love.
Give us all the details about the proposal.
We had a long day. Shopping, errands, cleaning – regular couple things. When it was time to settle in for the evening, Jarrett offered to run me a relaxing bath. I enthusiastically accepted and the next thing I know, I was transported to a relaxing home spa. Jarrett had candles, soft R&B music, and a bath bomb (the bath accessory the fizzes when it touches the bath) which he placed in the water. After a few moments of enjoying my spa treatment, Jarrett comes in to check on me and tells me to check the water, there is a surprise for me. It turns out the bath bomb melted away, revealing a capsule that contained a beautiful ruby ring. ‘This is beautiful!’ I exclaimed. When I looked up, my now Fiancé was getting down on one knee while opening a small box and said, “You can have that ring, or you can have this one if you’ll be my wife. Will you marry me?”. I almost drowned from excitement.
We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
I am a huge advocate of sustainability for our earth’s resources so I’ve always expressed my interest in lab-grown certified stones. I also believe our ancestors were Kings and Queens who adorned themselves in Gold and other naturally occurring products. Our engagement ring is a representation of both. 18k Gold to symbolize royalty and a 3-carat lab-grown cushion cut diamond with a double halo atop a four-prong setting and dusted diamonds along two channels on either side of the band. I especially love this ring was designed from scratch and has our motto engraved on the inside: J+J Our forever life.
What are you most excited about when it comes to your wedding planning?
We are most excited to have our rooftop wedding in Windy City. Chicago is home to so much history and culture and it’s the city where my fiancé grew up with his family who all still reside there. We currently live in South Florida but Chicago is one of our favorite places to return to.
