From the moment Don first laid eyes on Blair at the campus of the University of Louisiana, he knew that he had found the woman he would one day marry.
“She captured my soul with her grace from that moment on,” he fondly recalls. Making a habit of re-walking the same path every day in hopes of seeing Blair, Don’s wish finally came true when they were officially introduced at a party. The connection between them was evident as they enjoyed each other’s conversation. Exchanging numbers before leaving they have remained inseparable ever since. Don and Blair were pronounced husband and wife during a classic church ceremony in New Orleans – captured by MunaLuchi Coterie member Mosaic by MG.
Bride & Groom: Blair & Don
Wedding Date: 10/19/2019
Wedding Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
How did you meet? Before Blair and I actually met, I saw her on campus at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Honestly, Blair was (and still is) the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on. She captured my soul with her grace from that moment on. I even called my mom later that day and told her that I had found the woman I would one day marry. Even though Blair didn’t see me that day, I made it a habit to walk that same path in hopes of seeing her again. On 9/11/10, Blair and I attended the same party where we exchanged numbers. I didn’t even give her the chance to get back to her dorm before I called her. We have been inseparable ever since.
Tell us about the proposal. On Mother’s Day 2017, we took a carriage ride around the French Quarter in New Orleans. When the ride was over, we stopped and had our portraits drawn by a caricature artist. After, Don led me to the front of the St. Louis Cathedral. To my surprise, I was surrounded by family and close friends as Don got down on one knee. I cried, cried some more, and said yes!
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? Blair: “Overall, my wedding shopping experience was not as stressful as I would have imagined. There was definitely a certain look that I was going for with my ceremony dress, and I actually picked the first dress that I tried on! With the help of the staff at the bridal salon and dress designer, I was able to extend the train on my dress by an additional 2 ½ feet!”
Don: “My wedding shopping experience was not difficult at all. I wanted my tux to match our classic wedding theme and it worked out perfectly.”
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Being born in New Orleans and experiencing Hurricane Katrina, it was very important for me (Blair) to have our wedding there. I have so many life experiences and milestones in that city and it was only right to add our wedding as well! The culture of New Orleans was felt within our food, music, and second line.
Wedding Party Gifts: Bridesmaids: earrings, robes, slippers, and hair. Groomsmen: cigar and personalized lighter.
Ceremony Entrance Song: “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri
First Dance Song: “You & I” by John Legend
What is your best memory from your wedding? Our best memories from our wedding were our intimate ride from the church to the reception in the Rolls Royce and the closing of our reception with our second line band, Indians, and Tramps.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? The best advice that we can give to engaged couples is to not get lost in the wedding planning process. Do not lose sight of the bigger picture, which is your union and true commitment to each other!
