For this styled shoot, Brooklyn-based wedding planner, Dionne Gill wanted to create a positive experience and safe space for transgender couples of color, as well as increase visibility for transgender people of color and people in the LGBTQ+ community in the wedding scene.
“We are not only allies, we are inclusive LGBTQ+ wedding planners…I wanted to bring them to the forefront to let everyone know that love knows no color, race, or gender.”

Models, Mermaid and Milan, are the first LGBTQ+ identifying members of the ballroom scene to be featured in a styled shoot, wedding editorial. They are members of the Legendary House of Comme des Garcon, a diverse international network of LGBTQ+ artists and activists of the House and Ballroom community.
“I really want people to take away that we are people too”, said Mermaid, who said she witnessed an outpouring of support in response to America’s racial reckoning of 2020. “This is how I would like to get married in the future.”
