High school sweethearts, Ikiya and Kevin, said “I do” at their intimate rooftop wedding celebration in Brooklyn, New York!
Since they first met during their freshman year of high school in Brooklyn, Ikiya and Kevin’s love has continued to grow and deepen. Kevin proposed in the intimate setting of Ikiya’s family home with only her mom present.
The proposal was intimate and perfect.
– Ikiya (The bride)
As a wedding planner, Ikiya knew exactly how to bring her and Kevin’s vision to life. Their modern garden-inspired wedding featured a colorful, yet elegant, color palette of vibrant peaches, light pinks, and baby blues, with gold and black accents.
They prioritized simple and sleek decor that allowed their gorgeous color palette to pop and included personalized elements, such as custom Oreo cookies, and a modern frosted cake topper with their initials.
Their wedding day was a long-awaited celebration of their journey together, and it was nothing short of magical…

The beautiful rooftop views didn’t end there. The reception began with a picturesque sunset and a celebration under the stars before moving the party indoors.

Tell us about the proposal.
Kevin proposed at my family home with my mom present, right in our living room. It was intimate and perfect.
Wedding Style:
Our wedding style was colorful, garden-inspired, and modern. It was intimate with only fifty-five guests. I envisioned a vibrant peach, pink, and baby blue color palette with black and gold accents, and I wanted to incorporate the colors throughout every aspect of the day. For getting ready, my girls had pajama sets with robes of different colors from our palette to match their dresses and my Maid of Honor wore a custom baby blue suit.
Our decor was simplistic, with alternating color napkins and taper candles on white table linens to keep the design clean and make the colors pop! I rented smoke-black glassware and gold flatware from Party Rental Ltd to tie in our black and gold accent colors, which went perfectly.
For our favors, Kevin’s favorite snack is Oreo cookies, so what better way to incorporate them into our wedding than with our custom Oreo cookies featuring one of our engagement photos?! Our cakes from our amazing baker were a beautiful collection of three cakes with an alternating peach, and pink watercolor design, and gold flakes. Our amazing florist added a perfect mix of florals, and the last touch was a frosted acrylic cake topper with our initials.
Describe your wedding attire.
I chose a beautiful deep V-neck strapless gown with floral and leafy lace details, which perfectly matched our garden-inspired details. I also wanted a little sparkle and some drama with the train, and this dress was it with sparkly tulle and simple, yet intricate lace on the train. Kevin wore a classic black tux from Generation Tux completed with a silver and gold Calvin Klein watch gifted by my aunt.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you?
The shopping experience was fun! I had waited all my life to go wedding dress shopping, but it was at the tail end of the pandemic so I could only bring one person (which was my Maid of Honor). I tried on different styles to get the full experience, but I already knew that I wanted a mermaid-style Essense of Australia dress as I had been in love with their dresses for years. For vendors – this was also fun! As a wedding planner, having worked with many different vendors, I already knew exactly who I wanted for my wedding and they did the damn thing!
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
Although Kevin is Ecuadorian, he didn’t have any cultural traditions he wanted to include, and neither did I. Considering this, we just had fun personalizing our ceremony! We had Kevin’s best friend officiate the ceremony, who we had also gone to high school with. We also included a unity shot with custom shot glasses and a rose ceremony, where we gifted each other’s moms a rose as a token of our appreciation for them.
Ikiya and Kevin’s wedding was a true love story, a journey that led them to this remarkable day, and one that will undoubtedly continue for many more adventures together.

What is the best memory from your wedding?
There were so many, but I think walking down the aisle towards my husband was my best memory. Hearing the entrance song that I had wanted to hear all my life while walking the love of my life was top tier. A close second was our first look (I love a first look) and our first dance because we loved our first dance song!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Do what you and your spouse want. If you let outside pressures sway your decisions, you’ll end up having the wedding that everybody else wants you to have and not the one you both truly want. Also, enjoy the day, no matter what! It goes by too fast and if anything goes wrong, you want to remember the good memories instead of the negative ones.
