While enjoying brunch with friends, Caddie’s attention was stolen when into the restaurant walked a man she found “immediately attractive.”
Breaking with tradition, Caddie decided to not allow the opportunity to pass and went over to introduce herself to Kurtillius. The chemistry between was ” instantaneous – a true, love at first sight story.” Their official first date to a baseball game only further convinced them that their connection was indeed something extra special.

How They Met: Caddie and Kurt met at a restaurant, during brunch in Washington, D.C., in August 2015. While brunching with her friends, Caddie saw Kurt as he entered the restaurant. Finding him immediately attractive, Caddie decided to break tradition and introduce herself. Thank God she did, because the chemistry was instantaneous – a true, love at first sight story.
The Proposal: Kurt proposed to Caddie on June 23, 2018, during the weekend of his 33rd birthday. Unbeknownst to either one of them, the weekend would be filled with surprises! Kurt proposed to Caddie at their Tyson’s Corner apartment, located in McLean, Virginia. While Caddie was getting dressed, to take Kurt to his surprise party, she had no idea what was in store for her, when she walked out of the room. The proposal was very intimate. The apartment was filled with flowers, candles, champagne, and a lot of love. The proposal made the surprise party increasingly better, as all of their friends and family were there to not only celebrate Kurt’s birthday, but also a new chapter in their lives together.
Describe your engagement session. Kurt being from Virginia and Caddie from Maryland, the couple thought it was fitting for their engagement session to be in the city that not only connects the two states but also the place that connected them as well. Winters in D.C. can be brutal, so an indoor but iconic location was a must, which brought the couple to the historic Union Station. Although there wasn’t a theme to the session, the couple decided on a formal look and a classic black & white, to coincide with Union Station’s beautiful architecture.
What did you do on your first date? Caddie and Kurt’s first date was to a Washington Nationals regular season baseball game. The most memorable part of the game was Kurt watching Caddie eat a half-smoked hot dog from the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl with a fork (after all you must be a lady on the first date, right?) After the game, the couple took the train home, exchanged stories and shared laughs together, which caused Kurt to nearly miss his stop; however, before departing the train, Kurt stole a goodbye kiss from Caddie.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We like to have discussions about political and cultural interviews that we watch and share our take on them. Although we don’t always agree with each other’s ideas on all topics, it allows us to learn more about each other’s view on life.
