After meeting at a football game, Timetra and Percy courted for two years before a sneaky proposal involving a small group of family and mysterious cake. Since then, the two have saved the date for an August 27, 2016 Huntsville, Alabama wedding. Their small town love was seen all over town as Timetra and Percy set out to their favorite spots for their intimate engagement session. A day that began on the court ended with firelight, a blaze set to shine for a lifetime.
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
Percy and I met on September 28, 2013 at an Alabama A&M University football game. Since I am a native of Huntsville, I normally go to all of the home football games to tailgate with Veronica; she is my friend, soror, and beautician. On this night after we walked out of the game, we walked toward our typical tailgate spot and stopped to speak to a group of guys that were our tailgate partners. During the conversation, I noticed this guy with a fitted on that I didn’t know. When we went to our spot, I asked Veronica who the that guy was and she said she didn’t know. So I went to start a conversation, nothing major. The conversation was good and we exchanged numbers. The next day, my grandfather was admitted to the hospital and Percy wanted to bring me dinner at the hospital. I really didn’t want him to meet my family that quick, but I gave in and said he could bring me dinner.
The proposal was the week of July 13th and my parents had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Thursday came and we did our typical “Good Morning” texts. We didn’t text that much that day until he asked me later what I had planned for the day. I told him my plan of running errands and then my brother, Carrius’, was going to grill that afternoon. I thought it was a little weird when he asked for Carrius’s number, but I gave it to him. We got back to the house later that afternoon and then Percy and his mom walked through the door. Man, was I surprised! As time went on, my niece, Shabre’ and cousin, Cynthia came by the house. We ate and were having a good time. Then, Percy said he had some cake that everyone would love, so he went outside to the car. I thought, “What cake does he have? He doesn’t even like cake.” I looked outside the window to see what he was getting until Cynthia told me to stop being nosey and closed the blinds on me. He came back in and after some back and forth about cake, he said, “I have been trying to get you on the court and you won’t play me. But will you walk down the aisle with me?”
The engagement session…
Since Percy’s last name is White, we decided to focus on that for the pictures at a white house in the historic district of Huntsville with us wearing all white. We both played ball in college and since we share the love for the game, we wanted to put emphasis on that love. The night pictures at Bridge Street was our photographer, Neville’s idea, which was an awesome idea of a date night session. The entire engagement session was awesome…it was a fun two days of shooting with the best photographer ever.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first official date was November 16, 2013 at Connors restaurant in Bridge Street. Since we met during the time that I was helping my parents take care of my grandfather, Percy and I really didn’t have an official date until after the death of my grandfather.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We enjoy spending time with each other’s family as well as watching sporting events together on TV or in person.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has really just started. One thing I am learning is that everyone has an opinion ha ha ha. I really like the planning part since I am all about event planning. However, there are so many decisions to make, big and small. I am really enjoying the process.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
On my wedding day, I am looking forward to celebrating our special day with the people that have been the most meaningful and influential to both of us throughout our lives. I look forward to the memories that will be created. Most of all, uniting as one is the most anticipated moment.
