How did you meet? We met in High school however I did not take him seriously because I considered him to be a “football jock.” I saw him again in August 2009 at our 20-year high school reunion but I was leaving as he was coming in. I told him I was going to the bathroom and did not return. He found me on Facebook shortly thereafter and we became Facebook friends. Three to four times a year he would send me a message saying hello and my same response year after year was – “Who is this?” I laugh because I saved those messages! Finally, in January of 2015, I was single and he texted me again! I told him I needed some time to myself and he reached out again and a few months later. He asked me out for drinks which was very embarrassing because I was checking him out as he walked to the bar not knowing that there were cameras overhead and he saw me.
Tell us your proposal story. Cabo is one of our favorite places to visit- on August 17, 2017, we were having dinner on the beach. I was mad at him because unbeknownst to me he thought I knew he was going to propose. He placed my engagement ring in his cigar bag and I packed his bag however I did not see the ring. He kept using cryptic language that I did not understand telling me, “You know – I know you know!” As I turned away from him because I was really getting upset- I had no idea what he was talking about – I turned back around and he was on his knees!
Describe your engagement session. We didn’t have a theme however my dressmaker knew I was having a photo shoot and she told me to visit her sample sell – it was love at first sight when I saw the dress! Our photographer asked for our favorite places – Brooklyn Chophouse being one of them. I was surprised when she said well let’s do a photo shoot there. I reached out to Don Pooh Cummings – the owner – and he graciously allowed us to do it there.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love to travel. We just came back from our 50th birthday trip to the Maldives and it was incredible giving us time to reflect and release. We really have so much fun together.
How has wedding planning been so far? I can’t complain out wedding planning- I know people say you shouldn’t be your own wedding planner but as a Principal, I feel like I come to the table with a specific set of skills which has allowed me to detail exactly how I want our big day with limited stress.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We are looking forward to spending a few days with our family and friends. We have actually known one another for most of our lives so it is still amazing that after all of this time we have found one another! So I guess I can say we are really looking forward to making it official!
