How did you meet?
In 2014, Greg and I met through mutual and close friends, who also happen to be in our respective sorority and fraternity. When we met, I was a senior in college, and Greg was already working his first corporate job. One day while I was with our close friends, a picture of Greg popped up on our friend’s phone mid-conversation. I smiled and they noticed. It was that moment that set things in motion, but I didn’t hear from Greg initially. Taking matters into my own hands, I reached out…. and days later, we had our first date. Dinner and a movie…Since then, we’ve been inseparable.
Getting ready with the bride…
Our proposal story…
I was away on a girl’s ski trip in the Poconos back in January 2021. Little did I know my hunny was home planning a moment that would forever change our lives. As I gathered my things and opened the door to exit the cabin, I found a man on the porch with a camera pointing directly at me. He pointed to an open suitcase near his feet that held multiple of my coats and told me to pick one and wear it.
He then led me down the stairs of roses where multiple letters from Gregory were attached. I read them along the way. At some point “Get You” by Daniel Ceaser filled the air played by the saxophone player Greg hired. I continued following the path of roses laid on the ground covered in pure white snow. I then laid my eyes on Greg who held more red roses in his hands.
As I got closer, the music changed to “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar from H.E.R. Greg got on one knee, in the snow, in 16-degree weather and professed his love to me and asked me to be his wife. I said yes of course.
Our wedding Style:
We both have a love and affinity for dope black-owned businesses, so we were intentional about our suitors of choice. For me Pantora Bridal was my pick and where I purchased both my wedding gown and reception dress. I went for a classic look with my wedding gown. All-white sleeveless gown with a sweetheart neckline, a beautiful train, and a slit was added. Over the gown, I wore a skirt with an even bigger train and a jeweled belt around the waistline.
A touch of blue…
Behind the scenes with the groom…
Greg knew where he wanted his suit since day one: Garçon Couture.
From the fabric intricacies and details desired by the groom to handling the logistics for his eight groomsmen to handling family members as well, they handled all of his/our family’s asks, needs, and last-minute requests at a moment’s notice. For the color, he knew he wanted to go for a “clean” look, all-white like the white Power Ranger, with subtle colors (black and gold) to pop.
Our first look:
Garden ceremony…
Ingrid: The best memory from our wedding was saying our vows to each other during the ceremony. We both wrote our own and it was special to hear us profess our love to one another in front of our loved ones. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
Gregory: My favorite memory from our wedding was hands down our vows. It was authentic and genuine and set the tone for the remainder of the night.
Celebrating our culture…
Greg is Jamaican and I am Haitian. The way we made sure our cultures were a part of the wedding was to make sure that everyone had a chance to groove to the rhythm of both types of music. We also infused our Fraternity and Sorority legacy by singing our respective hymns, chants, and strolls.
