Love and Faith Prevails in Intimate Micro Wedding!
Shanice and Trevor’s wedding almost didn’t happen.
With the pandemic in full swing and their date and venue already set, it seemed like their dream wedding was slipping away. During these difficult times, Shanice and Trevor leaned into their faith and family.
Then, suddenly their prayers were answered — the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art was still going to allow them to have their wedding! Of course, it would be a more intimate celebration because of the pandemic, but it turned out to be equally special as their original plans.
While they had to reduce their guest-list from 300 to 65 and enlisted their bridesmaids to make decorations, Shanice and Trevor wouldn’t have wanted their wedding any other way! They realized “the people who were there that day… will forever be in [their] lives.”
They “attribute the entire day to Jesus” and are forever grateful they got to celebrate their love (even amidst a pandemic!).

How they met…
Shanice and Trevor first met through FLC’s young adult ministry program.
When Shanice first saw Trevor, she knew there was “something different about him.” Her heart told her she needed to know this man. She says: “I like to say I knew he was my husband [and] knowing that was attractive.” She added, laughing: “I also peeped him looking at my butt.”
For Trevor, he was immediately attracted to Shanice and drawn to her glow. “She’s a show-stopper” he says with a smile. The moment he witnessed Shanice practicing her faith also stood out to him.
“She prayed during the night with the young adults and that was something that stood out to me. I had never heard somebody pray like that – she made us stop and breathe before we started praying and I actually began to do that for myself, so she definitely made an impact that first night.”
The proposal…
Trevor made their proposal extra meaningful by secretly gathering their family and friends at the beautiful Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach.
Walking into an elegant courtyard, Shanice was overcome with emotion upon seeing her friends and family. Then, when she turned around, Trevor was down on one knee asking her to marry him! Of course, Shanice said yes! She recalls the day “was so beautiful!”

Wedding details…
Despite being in the middle of a pandemic, Shanice describes her wedding shopping experience as incredible.
Working with dress designer, Travian Vann, Shanice had a custom wedding dress made just for her! And she felt seen and appreciated throughout her entire experience.
“As a black woman, finding a dress that completed my curves and melanin was huge for me, and I got just that with the Vann experience. She created time and space for my mother, friends and me to share special moments.”
Their venue, the MOCA Museum, allowed the couple to have a micro wedding in order to save their special date amidst the pandemic. The couple were forever grateful for the Museum’s ability to work with them during these difficult times.
Shanice recalls: “Originally, we were only given a small window to decorate the morning of the wedding which was [going] to begin at 9:15am, yes that’s right… 9:15am. Thankfully, they allowed us to decorate the night before. My bridesmaids were the best, they pulled it off.”
Following the ceremony, the couple headed to the beautiful Virginia Beach Marriott, where they stayed to finish taking post-wedding photos.
Bride’s favorite memory…
“The best memory from the wedding day were the vows. They were heartfelt and real!”
Advice for other engaged couples…
“Make your faith your foundation. We are Christian so Jesus is our foundation. Your honesty and communication should be valuable to you both and your commitment to the process of marriage should always be at the forefront of your minds. Eliminate the word divorce from your vocabularies, because if one loses you both lose. Love each other the way you each receive love and become experts on the other person – intentionally.”
