Jasmine and Marcelus’ love story began on the dance floor of a mutual friend’s birthday celebration, where they danced into each other’s heart. Almost five years later they joined at the aisle’s end as husband and wife in their classic elegance wedding, at the historic Mankin Mansion in Richmond Virginia.

How did you meet? We both love to dance! It may sound cliche, but we met on a dance floor! While celebrating a friends birthdays in Greensboro, N.C. we started talking, and never imagined it would blossom into a beautiful marriage almost five years later!
Tell us about the proposal. With just days before Jasmine was going to leave Wilmington, N.C. to head back to her hometown of Richmond V.A. for her dream reporting job, I made her think we would celebrate her last weekend in North Carolina with friends. I told her I was an hour and fifteen minutes away, but had actually been in town most of the day. While she ate dinner with two of her best friends, I nervously waited behind parked cars with photographer Casey Roman of Board & Batten Photography, to capture our moment. She was walking down the Riverwalk in Downtown Wilmington, NC, thinking she and her friends were going to have a stranger take a few pictures of them as the sun was setting. I saw that she had started to gaze off, looking at the sunset, and knew it was time. It still seems like a blur, but I made my way towards her and instantly dropped down to one knee. She was so surprised; she didn’t even look at the ring at first! It’s hard to believe it has been almost two years since she said yes!
Describe your wedding attire. Our wedding was elegant, classic and a hint traditional.
Wedding Party Gifts: Bridesmaids: Each woman received a handmade pair of earrings, a photograph of a memory with Jasmine and a handwritten note.
Gifts for each other: We kept it simple, and just wrote each other letters to read before the ceremony.
First dance song: “Best Part” by Daniel Ceasar featuring H.E.R.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? It was a fun, laid back experience thanks to family and friends who helped us in our indecisiveness at times!
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We jumped the broom because we felt it important to honor those who have come before us. Those who fought for their marriages and families.
