Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in class at Hampton University! For the proposal, my favorite animal is the penguin. Chris surprised me one Sunday after church with a visit to the zoo. I thought we were going to brunch, and was shocked when we turned into The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, MD. This zoo has a hands on penguin exhibit. After visiting with the animals, and during my peak excitement, Chris got on one knee and proposed. The ring was a round solitaire diamond in a Tiffany setting, exactly what I wanted! I said YES and burst into happy tears!
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? Buying the dress was an amazing experience. The bride along with her mother, future mother-in-law, best friend, and step sister went to Tyson’s Galleria in McLean, VA. Jen tried on several dresses, but had already paid for a specific dress she saw online to be shipped to Tyson’s so she could try it on. She saved that dress for last and as soon as she put it on everyone knew it was the one. The gown is from the Demetrio’s 217 collection. It was a trumpet style with all lace in the front and an intricate mesh/lace design on the back. She wore a two-tiered cathedral veil. Chris opted for a rental tuxedo from Men’s Warehouse for the ceremony. For the reception, Jen changed into a sexy, white spaghetti strap dress. Chris changed into a custom tuxedo. The bride and groom wore Christian Louboutin shoes!
Wedding party gifts: Bridesmaids received Alex & Ani “Bridesmaids” bracelets, jewelry to wear for the wedding, cosmetic bag, and a clutch handbag. Groomsmen received custom monogrammed travel duffel bags, flasks, and tall pilsner glasses. Since we love to play spades, our gift to guests were custom playing cards with our names/wedding date on them.
Gifts for each other: We wrote handwritten letters to each other to read the morning of. We opted not to splurge on additional gifts since we both bought Christian Louboutin shoes for the wedding.

What is your best memory from your wedding? We opted to take Communion in private immediately following the ceremony. It was very important to us that our first act as husband and wife be to honor God. Other than that, the best wedding memory was the reception! The only people that are local to the couple are his mother and father. Aside from a few friends and co-workers, EVERYONE else had to travel to be there. It was very special to dance and celebrate with loved ones that came from all across the country!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Most people will tell you that you have to have a white cake. PICK FLAVORS THAT YOU LIKE! Our 4-tier wedding cake was (top to bottom) red velvet, lemon sublime, chocolate mousse, and classic white with buttercream frosting. There was a rose design along with rhinestones. We opted for the white cake on the bottom tier so that the cake cutting picture wouldn’t look odd, but the rest of the flavored tiers were truly our favorites. The guests raved about the cake all night!
