When Terrel first laid eyes on Jennifer it was on a mutual friends Instagram account. He immediately inquired as to who she was, very much interested in getting to know more about her. A first date was setup in that moment and together Jennifer and Terrel have never looked back. Sharing a love for exploring new culinary experiences, their first date consisted of an evening enjoying each other’s company at a lounge, followed by a cigar bar, and breakfast. On the wedding day, the bride & groom-to-be are looking forward to seeing each other in their formal ceremony attire.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met through mutual friends. My best friend’s friend is married to Terrel’s best friend. Terrel saw me on my best friend’s Instagram page and inquired about me. They all ended up calling me (on speakerphone) to set up our first date.
My best friend planned a house party for New Year’s Eve. The entire time it was a surprise proposal party. My best friend and Terrel had everyone in on the surprise. My family was there, friends from college (who I thought just wanted to hang out in Chicago for the weekend), and our close friends. A little before midnight one of my girlfriends asked everyone to go around and say what they were looking forward to in 2017. Terrel was the last person to speak and that is when he proposed. I really didn’t realize what was happening until he started pulling the ring out of his pocket. I was completely surprised!
Describe your engagement session. Our photographer suggested the location—a beautiful park in downtown Chicago with great views. While we had some ideas about how we wanted the pictures to look, we didn’t really have a theme. We knew we wanted to have a more formal look and really just let the photographer drive the session.
What did you do on your first date? We went to a lounge, a cigar bar, and then to breakfast. It was a very long first date!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We both love to eat, so trying new restaurants or going to our favorite food spots tops our favorite things to do.
How has wedding planning been so far? Exciting. It has been relatively stress-free considering we are planning it out of state.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. I’m looking forward to the first time we see each other on our wedding day, and also to the second-line parade with our family and friends.
