Jessica and Quincy’s love story began while attending university, Quincy was a sophomore and Jessica a freshman – though the “love” part didn’t begin till after graduation. Initially they met byway of mutual friends and ended up remaining friends themselves throughout their college careers. When Jessica landed her first big corporate position, Quincy sent her flowers of congratulations and so began the stage of sweeping her off her feet. As Jessica puts it, “we couldn’t get enough of each other.”
After a year and a half together, Quincy knew it was time to take their relationship to the next level. The day began with treating Jessica and her best friend to a spa day, complete with massage, facials, manicures, pedicures, champagne, and more. Being a professional basketball player, Quincy told Jessica they had a mandatory team dinner to attend that evening at popular steakhouse. Up to this point Jessica held no suspicions of a proposal on the horizon, thinking that the spa day was just a sweet gesture allowing her to catch up with a good friend, and the team dinner not being out of the ordinary either.
Arriving to the team dinner directly from the spa, Jessica asked Quincy via text message if he could meet her at the entrance, as she felt a little awkward entering alone. Quincy, thinking on his feet, replied back that he was in the middle of an important conversation with the coach, so he sent a host to escort her to the private room in which the team dinner was being held.
The doors to the private room opened and instead of seeing a group of men in suits, Jessica was welcomed by their family and friends – having arrived from all over the country to be there. Music began to play as the group parted down the middle to reveal Quincy at the opposite end of the room waiting for his future bride-to-be, a vocalist at his side serenading them both with an original song he wrote. As tears of joy streamed down her cheeks, Quincy took Jessica’s hand in his own, got down on one knee and professed his eternal love for her before asking her to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife.
For Jessica, dress shopping was “one of the most fun parts of wedding planning.” Accompanied by her mother and entourage of bridesmaids, Jessica tried on dresses eight or nine times before coming to decisions. Ultimately, she went with the first dress she had in mind months before beginning the shopping process – a twinkling champagne gown with sweetheart neckline, sexy see-through boning in the back, intricate lace detailing, and a long train.
Their beautiful ballroom wedding in Dallas, Texas had an ivory, clear, and champagne accented color scheme with hints of dusty blue in the florals, while also incorporating a mariachi band cocktail hour to represent Jessica’s Mexican cultural roots.
Favorite Wedding Accessory: “My ivory and rose gold Sophia Webster heels. They’re my favorite because Quincy actually picked them out for me. I was having such a hard time finding shoes that coordinated with my dress because of its unique color, so like with everything else, I ran to Q to ask for his opinion even though he had not even the slightest clue as to what my dress looked like. And he came back with these amazing shoes! He said he loved the wing accent because I would be his “angel walking down the aisle” *swoon*”
Quick Facts from the Bride:
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: “I got my bridesmaids personalized bridesmaid’s robes, rose gold drop earrings, facial sheet masks to put on before the makeup artist did their makeup and foot petal insoles for their high heels. Quincy got his groomsmen matching black and gold Tsovet watches and personalized gun metal bullet-shaped bottle openers.”
Favorite item on the menu: Jessica: The salad was my favorite because we took a little bit of a risk by going with something less common and it was a hit. Quincy’s favorite was the surprise Dallas Cowboys themed groom’s cake!
First dance song: “Overload” by John Legend
How did you know they were “the one?”
Jessica: “For me, I think I always knew in the back of my mind that Quincy was “the one”, but the moment that made it very clear was Christmas, 2015. We were living in Sacramento – he was playing for the Kings at the time – and although it was his fourth year in the league and he had seemingly learned how to deal with being away from home, being away from my family for an extended amount of time was still tough for me, especially during the holiday season. Even though I tried to act like it didn’t bother me, Quincy could see right through my act. It was a few days before Christmas and Q said he was going to run to the store to pick up some last-minute things before it closed. I was lounging in the living room with the fire place glowing and hear the front door open and see him walk in but from behind I hear someone say,” Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!” I instantly got chills because I knew those voices anywhere – it was my mom and sister. I remember running up to them and almost knocking them over, I was filled with pure joy! Hugging them in tears, I glanced at Q as he just stood and watched and smiled, so selflessly, in the background… That’s when I knew I wanted to be loved by him forever.”
Quincy: “I can say that I knew Jessica was the one on multiple occasions, it’s cliche to say that as soon as I laid eyes on her I knew she was the one, but when I first saw her my sophomore year of college, I literally thought she was the most beautiful human being that I had ever seen, so much so that I couldn’t stop telling my friends that day about how gorgeous she was lol. From then on just us building a friendship and hanging out I knew she was the one I wanted to be with, and after years in a relationship I knew without a doubt that she was my soulmate and the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”
Best Memories: “For both of us, the most memorable moment of the wedding was when the doors opened and we both saw each other for the first time, right before I walked down the aisle. A close second would be the moment after dinner was served and our planner raised the shades of the reception ballroom revealing the entire Dallas skyline! The ballroom was on the 32nd floor of the hotel so you could literally see all of Dallas. It was breathtaking.”
Advice for Engaged Couples: “On tips for future brides – be honest with yourself! If you know you’re a procrastinator, stick to a strict schedule. If you’re a little scatterbrained, budget for a wedding planner. And if your husband-to-be wants to take part in the planning process, utilize
him! Quincy was my biggest help throughout this entire process.”
