Jewel and Zekarias were first introduced by a mutual friend. Not entirely sure how it would work out, they both gave themselves exit plans for the first date. To their pleasant surprise the sparks flew, and in Jewel’s words, “we ended up enjoying each other so much that we extended the date and went to Barcelona Wine Bar to keep talking and laughing.” It didn’t take long for Zekarias to realize that Jewel was the gem of his heart, and just over a year later he asked her to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met through an introduction from a mutual friend. Zek proposed after a year and some change of dating at an annual charity event called 12 Days of Christmas Party with a Purpose, that I co-host to raise money for less fortunate families. Zek had coordinated with the organization’s president and my good friend to surprise me with a proposal right after we announced the total amount raised. It was really special!
Describe your engagement session. Our engagement session was on a damp and cold day, so I was really nervous about how our pictures would turn out, but I think they turned out beautifully. I really love visual art, and wanted to showcase it as a theme in both our engagement session and our wedding. LaJoy did an amazing job creating interesting compositions and capturing sweet moments of having fun with the gorgeous architecture of the High Museum as a backdrop.
What did you do on your first date? We met at The Porter in Little Five Points for our date. I think we both made exit plans, in case things didn’t work out. But we ended up enjoying each other so much that we extended the date and went to Barcelona Wine Bar to keep talking and laughing.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We enjoy trying new restaurants, playing Scrabble, discussing block chain technology and watching movies.
How has wedding planning been so far? So far so good! We had a relatively short engagement, so it’s definitely been a lot to get done, but we are excited.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. I am excited about worshipping God through our love at our wedding, and partying with our loved ones at our reception! Can’t wait!
