How did you meet? Online dating, OkayCupid!
Tell us about the proposal. Raphael orchestrated a surprise proposal by masking it as a house warming game night social at Judith’s cousin’s new apartment. He had friends and family from various states come in for the occasion. At one point in the evening he proposed and revealed the true intentions of the evening. The patio was decked out in balloons, party favors, and photos of the couple.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? I did not enjoy the wedding dress shopping experience. I loved all the wedding dresses even the ugly ones! It got very tiring very fast trying on all those heavy garments.
The wedding attire was haute couture. I wore a hand beaded gown, paired with a 5ft. embroidered cathedral veil, and my husband was in a custom tuxedo.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Yes, I surprised the guests and my husband with a cultural Haitian dance featuring traditional music and clothing. The outfits worn were made of traditional Karabela fabric.
Wedding party gifts: Groomsmen gift was personalized Hennessy Bottles.
Bridesmaid gifts were personalized bathrobes, necklaces, personalize totes, and wine glass tutus.
Gifts for each other: Groom’s Gift: Christian Dior Sauvage cologne, and a pair of Happy Socks, with a note: “If you get cold feet put these on and walk your behind on down the aisle.”
Bride’s Gift: A sterling silver bracelet with blue stones engraved: “Enjoy the journey”
Ceremony entrance song: “Cupid” by Lloyd
First dance song: “Why I love you” by Major
What is your best memory from your wedding? My favorite memory is dancing with my cousins during the surprise Haitian dance at the reception.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy the process. Try to soak up the day and live in the moment. Notice the sites, smells, textures, and sensations of the day. Bask in each moment.
