Kanye West, the very outspoken hip-hop mogul, has added a new title to his name – womenswear designer which he revealed with cutting-edge 24 looks at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012.
Kanye proudly joins the ranks of musicians-turned-designers like Diddy (Sean John), Jennifer Lopez (J.Lo), Beyonce Knowles (House of Dereon), Jay-Z (Rocawear), Lindsay Lohan (Ungaro), and many others. His star-power pulled a covet front row guest list which included Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, Ciara, Alexander Wang, and Jeremy Scott. Dw by Kanye West bought fashion’s top models like Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, and Anja Rubik, who were all seen on the runway.
Fashion is of course second nature to Kanye as he designed at Louis Vuitton, and interned for The Gap and Fendi. Dw by Kanye West had plenty of leather, black, fur, low-cuts tops, harem pants, fitted dresses, ribbing and zipper detailing, white, draped collar jackets, sequin, tribal-inspired patterns, flowing fabrics, a Yeezi nameplate gold chain, and blue. Kanye also collaborated with Giuseppe Zanotti for a hip shoe collection.
Kanye on his new womenswear line, Dw:
[blockquote variation=”teal” cite=”Kanye”]I had a lot of ideas about colors and shapes I wanted to express. I’m really happy where I ended up. The biggest conversation I hope I can end tonight is the whole ‘celebrity designer’ thing. That’s the biggest hurdle when you want to get amazing people to work for you[/blockquote]
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the line, but just recently, Dw by Kanye joined twitter. Perhaps a second collection is underway? Here’s the twitter handle: @DwbyKanye
