Katerra and Edward’s relationship practically spans an entire lifetime. When they first met in kindergarten they had no idea what God had in store for them. Even though they went on to live separate lives it was always as if a force was pulling them to one another. In 2016 they realized their chemistry and finally started dating.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We have known each other since we were 5 years old and were in the same kindergarten class. Ed had a crush on me all the way up until high school. We still have notes he wrote me and remember our first phone conversation in 5th grade. Being from a small town, we’ve always had mutual friends and kept in touch. In June of 2016 right after graduating I moved home to study for my boards and hung out with some friends and Ed was there. I saw him and it was instant chemistry so I decided to “shoot my shot” lol. His best friend/best man got us in contact with each other and thereafter we began dating. He asked me to be his girlfriend in August of 2016 at a cute, intimate restaurant called Jacmel Inn in our hometown of Hammond,LA and we have been inseparable ever since.
The proposal took place on Christmas Eve of 2017. I had pre-planned a Christmas party at my house for all of my family and friends because we do an annual gift exchange. It was a pretty normal day. We went to the Saints game and came home to prepare for the party. When it was time to exchange gifts Ed somehow pulled my name. I asked for a rose gold Pandora bracelet and a charm so I just knew my present would be that and more since my boyfriend picked my name. I opened the Pandora box and it wasn’t a bracelet. Instead it was a pill bottle with my name on it and it came from CVS so I was so confused as to why and how he got to my job to get this without my knowledge because I am super nosey. His best friend yelled “read the directions!” and sure enough, the directions said “Will You Marry Me?” I hit the floor in tears and he hit the floor on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
Describe your engagement session. At first we scoped out Pinterest but then we began brainstorming to think of more things that truly capture us. We both went to different HBCUs in Louisiana so we wanted to outline that and we also are both in the medical field so we wanted to outline that as well. Once we gave our ideas to our photographer, Shagari, he truly exceeded our expectations. From the park in the middle of downtown Baton Rouge at sunset to the vintage vibes in the bar Hayride Scandal everything was perfect. The pictures truly show our genuine love for each other and the constant laughing we do daily.
What did you do your first date? Our first date was a movie date. We went to the Movie Tavern where you dine in and and see a movie at then same time. It was a pretty plain first date, but we made it a ritual to go to the Movie Tavern almost weekly thereafter to see a movie and discuss it as if we worked for Rotten Tomatoes.
What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do as a couple is to go sit at Starbucks on Saturday mornings and analyze different books of the Bible. We started doing that once our lives became too hectic for date nights or dates in general, but that was a way to start our weekend fresh and productively with one another. Our faith is what has gotten us this far, so we like to continue learning and talking about the Bible to carry that into our marriage.
How has wedding planning been so far? The wedding planning has been a breeze thanks to our event planners Victoria and Carlie of VAR Events. We both lead busy lives with me working and Ed in school and working, so they circumvent the hassle of setting appointments and arranging meetings. We just give them our ideas and they execute. The most interesting thing we’ve learned thus far is that real flowers are super expensive but so worth it. Our engagement party is just a glimpse into the white, lush vibes of our wedding.
What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day? On our wedding day we look forward to seeing all of our family and friends celebrating our love and union. We have a pretty large wedding party and an even bigger invite list due to us both having big families. They’ve been waiting for this day more than we have, so we know it will be one to remember.
