Kimberly and Kevin met on social media, swiping right into each other’s lives. Initially proceeding with casual caution, that was quickly cast aside the moment their first date began. In Kimberly’s words, “there was an instant attraction and we ended up chatting for over three hours.” Over time they both began to realize they’d discovered the one when life’s challenges only brought them closer, working together to overcome whatever came their way…

Tell us how you met. We met in August 2014….on Tinder. But it definitely wasn’t a great connection from the start. We had a little small talk, and then didn’t speak for a week. Chatted a little more, and then forgot to check in again. Finally, we set a date to meet.
The moment we met, there was an instant attraction and we ended up chatting for over three hours. However, what truly sealed the deal was “meal prep Sundays.” Each Sunday, we would get together and prep our healthy meals for the week.
By April 22, 2016, we had moved into a new apartment, bought 2 cars, and started living together. This is what sealed the deal. Realizing how trauma, drama, and stress can usually break a couple apart – but it forced us to rely on each other’s strengths and gave us an opportunity to grow closer.
Tell us all about the proposal. In January 2017, Kevin started plotting on the most epic proposal of all time. Kevin doesn’t do anything small, so he needed to arrange for a big crowd to be apart of this special moment. In the late spring, Kimberly started planning a new event for her business that would have 150+ attendees in the room – and Kevin quickly realized that this would be the perfect stage for his proposal. On July 15, 2017, the day of The Empowerment Social and Kimberly’s 30th birthday, Kevin proposed in front of all their family, friends, and event attendees.
How did you know they were “the one”? When most couples argue and fight during stressful times, we come together and rely on each other’s strengths to streamline whatever situation we are in. From the beginning, we’ve had amazing communication and were able to bring out the best in each other. Time just grew us closer together and confirmed that marriage was our next step.
What was wedding shopping like for you? This was the easiest part of the process because we both opted for custom attire. We never stepped into a traditional store to shop for a dress or suits.
Wedding Party gifts: bridesmaids – custom robes, groomsmen – custom flasks
Favorite item on the menu: Jerk Chicken
First dance song: “T-Pain Mashup” – T-Pain
What is your best memory from your wedding? It all goes by so fast! However, in our ceremony we had a #WakandaForever moment when our officiant included a line from Black Panther in her closing remarks. She told us to “Show them who we are” in our marriage! Also, Kevin did a FULL stroll throw during his garter routine with his fraternity brothers.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Pre-marital counseling is a MUST. Despite us dating for four years, we really learned a lot in our sessions and it improved our communication even more. Also – hire a wedding planner BEFORE you set a date or select a venue – it can save you a bunch of money!
