Tell us how you met. Demetrius and I have been together for about two and half years! On March 2013 we were introduced through mutual friends (Tonya & Author). After conversing for a while we exchanged numbers. The very next morning I woke up to a text from Demetrius! We talked for several weeks and then he asked me on a date. Over time, we became friends and both were surprise as to how much we had in common, and shared some of the same common goals. We grew up not too far from each other; attended college at the same time (but never crossed path); neither of us have been married before or have any children; we share the same faith and belief in God; and our career levels are very compatible! As time went by, Demetrius and I lost contact with each other for several months until we started communicating again towards the end of the year. In 2014, we went on several dates and spent a lot of quality time together. There were several things a liked about this guy but one of the things I really admired was that he could throw down in the kitchen! He would invite me over his house for dinner and would prepare my lunch for work the next day to take home. We both began to discover deep feelings for each other and fell happily in love – our friendship turned into a happy relationship!
Tell us all about the proposal. Demetrius and I had a bucket list of places/things we wanted to go/do together. By January 2016, we completed several things on our list and were ready to discuss marriage and starting a family. We were not getting any younger and time was of the essence, if you know what I mean! A few months after, we received great news, I was pregnant! We were both shocked but happy and grateful overall. In October of 2016, we were blessed with a precious little baby girl named Kensley Grace! This was a very special time in life for us and daily we rejoiced over our blessing. In February, 2017, Demetrius mentioned that he wanted to have a super bowl party and only wanted to invite close family and friends. I agreed and told him I would start the planning process (this wasn’t anything out of the norm for me because we have family & friends socials all the time). I mapped everything out and he invited our family and prepared food. On that day, all of our immediate family and most of our friends showed up, but the one thing that seem questionable to me was that were all there… So as they watched the game and I made sure everyone was comfortable and fed. He walked in the kitchen where I was and dropped to one knee, silently stared me directly in the eyes and popped the BIG question! I was so in disbelief and could only take deep breaths. Tears of joy began to flow and of course I said YES! Our family rejoiced and I was happy they shared this moment with us. We both agreed that this was one of the happiest times of our life! My ring was everything, and it touched my heart that he paid close attention to me and remembered what kind of ring I wanted (Chocolate Diamonds)! February 5, 2017 will ALWAYS be a Super Bowl to remember for us!
What did you do on your first date? We went out to dinner and for drinks, laughed and talked, and really enjoyed each other company!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do is travel, and spend time with family and friends.
How has wedding planning been so far? Although planning can be stressful at times I have had my planner, Carolyn Jones of Elegant Events, to guide me through the process to try and relieve some of the stress. I look forward to seeing what the day will turn out to be. Although there has been some setbacks in the process of planning, the experience has been memorable.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Knowing that one of the most happiest times in our lives has finally arrived, and that the planning and extra stress is all over! And of course seeing family and friends that come to celebrate our journey as one!
