Tell us how you met. We met on OkCupid.com in 2011. This was before online dating became popular for our age group! Chris messaged me first and I was intrigued by his favorite books (I had just read one of them!), and intrigued by his love of playing the saxophone. We went on our first date in Newark, NJ and it just felt so normal. It felt like we had known each other forever. The rest is history!
What was wedding shopping like for you? Our wedding style was glamorous and romantic with some winter wonderland touches. My wedding dress was the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. It had a beautifully beaded bodice with a dramatic but romantic skirt. It made me feel like a queen. My “something blue” was a blue flower from my paternal grandmother’s dress. We were very close and she passed away about 10 years ago. I really felt like a piece of her was with me on the wedding day.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We had a live band and they were able to play some reggae (the bride’s family is Jamaican!). And this doesn’t really fit into “culture,” but it was very personal that we had the first judge my husband worked for as our officiant!
What is your best memory from your wedding? There are so many. It is hard to choose just one… I love our first dance to “At Last.” The band performed it beautifully and it felt like it was just Chris and I in the room. We also had a fog machine which added to the beauty of it all. I also loved my dance with my father and watching my new husband dance with his mother. Another favorite moment would have to be when our friends had a little dance off! We have such an amazing, fun group of friends and they really made the night so much fun. Also, the moment we gave our grandmothers my toss bouquets instead of the traditional bouquet toss (I had the florist make two of them). They were both so shocked and touched. It was a great moment!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Just enjoy the process and have fun. Remember to take a moment during the reception to just be by yourselves and soak it all in. The night goes by fast, so take a moment to soak it all in.
