Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in the summer of 2016 when my good friend and T’Kao’s good friend, who are married, decided to hook us up. We’ve been together ever since and haven’t looked back. For the proposal, we were headed to dinner after a very nice Joe concert. We arrived at Char restaurant nearly at closing time. His mother and step father occupied us. So I thought it was a usual end to a great evening. With hardly any people in the restaurant my then future mother-in-law was making causal conversation about favorite songs and how to download music to her phone. So she starting to play one of my favorite Luther Vandross songs lowly. I didn’t think anything of it because we were sipping wine, conversing, and no one was in the restaurant with us. All of a sudden dessert came out because my birthday was upcoming the next week, so still no surprise there. Until I looked at the dessert where my ring was and he was getting on one knee and started to cry. Then I knew exactly what was going on! A very special day!
Describe your wedding style. I wanted a dress that represented the beach. My mother and sister came with. After trying on over 15 dresses, I tried on the Galina Signature and fell completely in love. My mother said “say YES to that dress!” The details on the back of the dress made me think of sea shells on the beach. #priceless.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? My sister did a lot of personable crafts for us, she made us a broom so we could jump it.
Favorite item on the menu: Appetizer – New Orleans BBQ shrimp.
First dance song: Luther Vandross’ “If only for one night” (also our engagement song).
What is your best wedding memory? My best memory of our special day was when the minister gave all our guests sea shells, and everyone prayed a special prayer for us, lined up at the edge of the ocean and threw the shells into the sea.
What advice to you have for engaged couples? Always remember it’s your special day to cherish for a lifetime, be your happiest in the moments for memories will be made!
