Han was so serious about getting his proposal to Mimi right, he took a class about diamonds to ensure he could pick out the perfect engagement ring.
He proposed during a trip to Japan on a beautiful bridge at Kiyomizudera Temple! To celebrate, the couple had a gorgeous golden hour engagement shoot in the Pacific Northwest lavender fields in British Columbia!

How did you two first meet?
We met during Festival of Light event at English Bay in 2012.
Give us all the details about the proposal.
The proposal was a surprise. It was during our Japan trip in 2018. I was in charge of planning for our Japan trip. One day, he said “Honey lets hire a photographer to take picture of us at Kyoto since we are doing traditional outfits anyways.” I fell right into the trap, super excited looking for a photographer. So there I am planning the whole thing without even knowing it was his proposal plan.
A week before heading from Tokyo to Kyoto, the storm hit Kyoto hard and the original spot he wanted to propose at was destroyed by the storm. He got worried all week. A day before meeting the photographer, he spent all night talking to him on planning out the route. On that day, he took me to this beautiful bridge at Kiyomizu Temple. He took my hand and knelt down, and to be honest I zoned out and just said “YES”
We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
It came as a surprise. Han designed it all by himself. He knew I always wanted a pear-shaped ring. He actually took a class about diamonds to educate himself a little more so that he could pick out a perfect one for me!
What makes your relationship special?
We love to travel, foodie type of couple. We are also goal oriented. We would put 1 thing each year we want to work toward together and 1 thing we would like to work on individually. I think what makes our relationship unique is that when one person is getting frustrated or mad the other will be calm and comfort the other (even when we argue!)
How did you know your partner was the one?
Seeing Han chasing his dream, setting his goals and achieving them. Taking care of his sister and mother all by himself. His sensitive mind and warm heart. I knew he would be a great husband and father one day.
What are you most excited about when it comes to your wedding planning?
I think the best part is bringing our idea to life and chosing a perfect venue.

I’m interested in experiencing a tea ceremony. Any recommendations on where to do this?
