Leslie and Jason’s Romantic Brooklyn Engagement

The first time Jason saw Leslie was while waiting for a haircut in the local barber shop. Like a movie scene in slow motion, Leslie walked into the shop taking a seat directly in front of Jason. Left with an unforgettable impression, Jason was later, with the assistance of a mutual, able to connect with Leslie via Facebook. After their first date they “ended up spending that whole winter of 2015 seeking warmth in each other’s arms,” and have been inseparable ever since.

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We actually met through mutual friends and Jason’s proposal was one I will never forget! He proposed in front of all our family and friends at our son’s first birthday party (funny story, but he actually met me before I met him if that makes sense. He was getting his haircut at a local barbershop he frequented whenever he was in town and I walked in and sat smack dab in front of his chair. He remembers seeing me for the first time, all 5’6” of me draped in a purple summer dress and crowned by Poetic Justice box braids. I didn’t even notice him, but he swears my “wide feline eyes examining every square-inch of the shop except for him” says otherwise. Sometime later, he saw me on Facebook and with the help of a mutual friend struck up a conversation that lasted all the way into halftime of Thursday night football. We agreed to meet for Sunday breakfast, it was the worst meal I’d ever had. It was the best company he had ever had. We ended up spending that whole winter of 2015 seeking warmth in each other’s arms. It was only fitting that on Christmas eve of 2017, on our son’s 1st birthday, that he proposed in front of all our family and friends…

Describe your engagement session. No theme really, Jason is from Brooklyn and I wanted to have our photo shoot in Brooklyn, what better place then Dumbo.

What did you do on your first date? Our first date was actually a breakfast date at a diner in Linden, NJ. Worst eggs I ever ate!

What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love to just cuddle on the couch and watch Netflix, we really just love being together.

How has wedding planning been so far? Ummm yeah…it’s stressful at times but it really is amazing planning our big day. Wedding planning has proven to be a new frontier for both of us but we’ve decided on an island destination in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Our friends and family are supporting us 100%!

Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Her: Becoming Mrs. Barker. Him: The honeymoon… and breakfast every Sunday.
