Though Lindsey and Jamall both went to colleges in Pittsburgh and shared a familiar circle of friends, they didn’t become acquainted until around the time of graduation. While enjoying a few drinks with friends at a local spot, they continued to share glances across bar throughout the night – getting pulled into each others gaze. Towards the end of the evening they were officially introduced by a mutual friend and a first date soon followed. A fun evening at Dave & Buster’s was the perfect place for them to relax into getting to know the other, and from that evening on the sparks never stopped flying…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Jamall and I both attended colleges in Pittsburgh, PA. While we had both spent time on each other’s campus and shared a similar circle of friends, we did not become acquainted until our final days in college. One night we were both at a local bar with our friends – and that’s when we spotted each other. Throughout the night, we exchanged looks a few times, but it wasn’t until the end of the night that we were officially introduced by a mutual friend.
We got engaged on my birthday, May 4th, at Point State Park, “The Point,” in Pittsburgh. In the days leading up to the proposal, Jamall visited my family in DC to ask for my hand in marriage. On the day of the proposal, he scheduled appointments for me to get my hair and nails done as he completed all of the finishing touches on the proposal. Under the guise of taking celebratory birthday photos, Jamall suggested that we head to The Point with one of his closest friends – who also happens to be a stellar photographer. We walked around and took a bunch of great photos along the rivers in Pittsburgh. As we circled back to where we entered the park, I spotted Jamall’s family holding huge gold foil balloons that read “Marry Me Lindsey.” Well actually, the balloons said “Marry Me Lindse” because the “Y” had blown away. Luckily, Jamall’s little brother, who was seven at the time, stood in and formed the cutest “Y” by holding his hands above his head. At the exact moment that I realized what the balloons read, Jamall got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!
Describe your engagement session. Although we live in Chicago, Pittsburgh still holds a very special place in our hearts and is the location of many significant moments in our relationship. As such, we felt it was fitting to have our engagement session centered in and around Pittsburgh. We are huge Steelers fans, so our first stop was Heinz Field. We were able to schedule a private tour for just the two of us and our wonderful photographer, Shagari Jackson of Mosaic by MG. The tour gave us access to many spaces that are typically off limits to fans. We were really hoping to take photos in the locker room, but there were players there for the entirety of our tour. After leaving Heinz, we changed into our formal attire and headed to the Andy Warhol Bridge. Pittsburgh is aptly nicknamed “The City of Bridges” as it has over
446 bridges, so we really wanted to capture the architecture in our pictures. Although it was rush hour, Shagari was dedicated to executing our vision and capturing images of us right in the middle of the bridge! For our final look we drove up to the West End-Elliot Overlook Park, a place that Jamall and I have spent many hours talking and taking in the views.
What did you do on your first date? For our first date, we went to Dave and Buster’s. I recall being extremely nervous as I waited for Jamall to pick me up, but that quickly subsided as we fell into easy conversation during the drive to D & B. We are both pretty competitive in nature, so it was fun to play games and get to skip the
awkward first date introductory conversations. Honestly, Jamall could not have picked a better location for our first date!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Our favorite thing to do as a couple is travel. This year, we have been to the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Paris, and a handful of other domestic locations. It’s been so awesome to experience new things and navigate different cultures together. It also helps that we have similar interests and like to explore the same things. Our second favorite thing to do is go to brunch!
How has wedding planning been so far? Overall, wedding planning has been stress-free and fun! Because we have been engaged for over a year, we have had time to enjoy our engagement and make plans for the big day! We are also so lucky to have our amazing wedding planners, B Astonished Events, helping us every step of the way. They have kept us from being overwhelmed by recommending wonderful vendors and keeping us on track.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. We are both looking forward to further committing to our love and partnership in a room full of people that have shown us so much love and support! Our family and friends mean the world to us, so we are also looking forward to celebrating with them at the reception.
