As you can tell, Munaluchi is all about the celebration of love and romance between couples. For us, the best love stories happen every day in real life. However, it is undeniable that love stories on television and in movies often inspire. So, we present this new section which periodically highlights one memorable TV/Movie moment in which we, as spectators, celebrated true love.
In 2005, the world was introduced to the other side of Tyler Perry; it would be the beginning of a significant shift in Perry’s career from the man who filled (stage play) theater seats to the man that fills movie theater seats to the brim!!! His very first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, starring the inimitable Kimberly Elise, made a huge impact – and with good reason.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman told an all-too-real story about a faithful and loving woman in an outwardly perfect but privately abusive marriage to her very successful attorney husband. We watched as Helen McCarter was thrown out of her own home (wailing) by her undeserving husband, Charles. We watched her meet blue-collar hottie, Orlando; throw him out of a car and reconnect with him later at a family barbecue. We watched this amazing woman learn to pull herself up by her boot straps, recognize her self-worth, and eventually fall in love with the blue-collar man she was trying so hard not to love. We saw a woman scarred by abuse, uplifted by her courage, and renewed by love :)
Diary of a Mad Black Woman was a tale of grace, courage, resilience, faith and yes, romance. My favorite part of the movie? That proposal scene! Blue-collar or not, Orlando knew exactly how to woo his woman. Relive it with me for a moment:
“I know you don’t believe in fairy tales, but if you did, I want
to be your knight in shining armor. You’ve been through so much; I don’t want
to see you hurt any more. Now I may not be able to give you all that you’re
used to, but I do know I can love you past your pain. I don’t want you to worry
about anything. Just wake up in the morning – that’s all you have to do and I’ll
take it from there. Just one condition: you have to be my wife.”
*Swoon*
