Aquia and Patrick met while leaving a restaurant in Dallas. She was out with girlfriends and he was out with a guy friend when she noticed him from across the bar. Aquia quickly struck an interest in this stranger so she pointed him out to her girlfriends, but they didn’t pay her much mind. As they begun to leave and walk to their cars, Aquia spotted him again, not to let her opportunity pass by she had her friend flag him down. She introduced them to each other and not skipping a beat the very next day they went on their first date. Since that first date they’ve been inseparable!

What did you do on your first date?
For our first date, we went to dinner at a restaurant in Uptown Dallas. I had to leave right after because I had plans to attend a housewarming party. So we continued our “first date” the next day with a walk in the park where we talked for hours.
Tell us how he proposed.
Patrick proposed at my 25th birthday party. I was having a backyard crawfish boil and just as I went out to greet my guests, he called me inside to tell me he wanted to give me a birthday gift. He led me to our bedroom, away from the crowd. He gave me a pair of earrings and a watch. After I thanked him and proceeded to walk out, he said something along the lines of “that’s not all” and when I turned around, he was on one knee. It was amazing in that we got to share such a special moment between the two of us, but I was still able to go back outside and celebrate with my guests. It has certainly been the best birthday yet.
How has wedding planning been so far?
It’s been a long process. I think if I could do it all over, I wouldn’t wait over a year. Otherwise, it has gone pretty smoothly. I’ve even managed to find some fun in it — like, cake and food tasting, of course. We are both excited and anticipating our wedding day.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I’m really excited to have all of my family in one place and of course having our extended families blend for the first time. I’m really looking forward to us reciting our own vows. And, of course, the celebrating at the reception.
